Northern NSW Ride

First topic message reminder :

OK. Sorry about getting all excited and rushing in about a stage 2 event.  But I would like to try and organise a long weekend ride sometime in the new year while the weather gods are  still kind to us. My pick would be Drake as a 1-2 overnight base camp. Obviously if some of you guys/gals were coming up from a fare way down , then you will organise rest stops along the way.  There are so many fantastic ride roads all around that area that I'm sure that it would be a great location. John and I did Cowra to Drake comfortably in one day, and he was aboard his Triumph Tractor. I'm not suggesting that that is what everyone should do. Only pointing out that it is pretty easy.  I truly hope that we can get something going and look forward to any ones interest.

Give it several goes over with the wax after cleaning off all the kero. Before we went to Cowra I cleaned mine and gave it 3 good coats over 2 days. The mate that came with me cleaned his and only gave it one coat. He got home with a stuffed chain............ His bike is still off the road

If any of you guys are going up the Putty Rd on your way to Muswellbrook please be careful of any tight left handers and there are lots of them.

I'm not sure of exactly what the writer means by "ten mile stretch" but I think its the most northern bit of twisties before Mirobodale.
Hopefully its been attended to by Singleton Council by now or the rain has washed it away, but it could still be a problem. Those twisties do cause a motorcyclist to lean aggressively through them.


WARNING! A member advises that there's an oil slick at the southern end of the ten mile stretch on Putty Road. He found it at 6:00 am. Reported to Singleton cops.
I found it the easy way.... Driving, luckily! Traction control, ABS & Stability control all went NUTS!! Worst part is, it was either deliberate, or a freak accident! The slick was about 1m wide, straight line across the road. Looked like a tar strip, but offered somewhat less traction.

Goes without saying.  Everyone ride safe on your way up. And MM. Make sure your side stand is fully extended when parking.

All systems GO for next weekend. Just rang the "Lunatic" to confirm. All OK. Will see whoever on fri arvo, and the rest on Saturday.  Ride safe, and enjoy.

So, my plans for anyone heading through Coffs.
I'm going to head to Drake on Sat morn, via the Gwyder hwy, then on to Tenterfield. From there down the Bruxner hwy to the bustling metropolis of Drake   .
For anyone heading up there on Sat & wants to tag along, no probs.
I may see if I can head on Friday if I can scrape the cash together for an extra night.

The only thing I've got packed is my bar fridge in the ute to take to Armidale for my son to use at uni   
I must remember to tell him it's to be used for beer only!

I have just sent a PM to Hammy re the weekend.

Is it too late to nominate for this weekend or is it a bit late?

My plan is to travel from Hervey Bay direct to Mt Tamborine on Saturday, meet with the group and ride to Drake, leaving Sunday morning for the journey home.

Is there a prize for the dirtiest, most unwashed bike. If so, mine is ready.  

Just spoke to BanditDave on the phone.  He is a goer for Saturday. Will meet us up at Mt Tamborine for lunch. Ride back to Drake and stay the night with us.     I'm getting excited !!

Yip.  If you can make it any sooner than 10am that will be great. Is about 200ks to Mt Tamborine. You can unload your bike at Drake first.     Armidale - Drake 239kms,  Easy.
