Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Chris, I take up to 4000 images a week and ditch 90% of them.
Photography is a love of images and not a competition between man and the lens. Take a shitload of images and decide which you love and WHY, an old barn in the bush, carefully photographed would be a lifelong joy in a frame on your wall because you can relate to it, a photo of your bike in a strange place , is a memory forever.
Like you impressing my wife.

She is still looking forward to have you join us in Melbourne. So come and I will show you the joys of the Great Ocean Road.

No worries mate,
The D90 is a great camera but no camera does it all. My $7000 (when I bought it three years ago) ID MKIII now takes third place behind my $2500 5DMKII and my $1500 7D but none can match its 10 Frames per second and superb auto focus but it is limited by being only 10 Megapixels whereas the 5DMKII is 21 MP Full Frame and the 7D 18 MP 1.6 crop.
There is a multitude of good info on the web especially the Youtube video tutorials.
Yes looking forward to Barrys ride and quite happy to lead the pack and cut down on the Valium
Take care mate and remember "Work is the curse of the drinking class"
PS don't worry about the "skills", that is all down to experience, concentrate on the fun and joy of being out there in the best country on Earth and on a fine Bike to boot.

A Rufous Night Heron (Juvenile) caught at the Edithvale Wetlands on Canon 7D with 400mm f/5.6 at 1/640 Sec ISO 400, Exp. Comp + 1/3, Eval. Metering Captured just before sundown, this bird is rare at Edithvale and is the only one I have captured in its immature plumage.

Nice.
There are some fantastic landscape opportunities on the Monaro Hwy. I'm going back with the D90 and some filters one day

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Whilst concentrating on photographing this years Swamp Harriers, I shot the Harrier (right hand bird) and when home and converting from RAW to Jpeg I saw the line up, from right to left, Swamp Harrier, Crow, Ibis and Welcome Swallow, the last three protecting their young from this Predator, goes to show"
it is not size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog." This image was taken from a Kilometer away which is why I did not see the other birds through the lens but when highly cropped on the computer, this is a 66% crop.

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Even by accident you take great photos Chris
Chris I nearly deleted the RAW file in Breeze Browser but something caused me to view it full size.
I have many images of Stilts "wing walking" on these Harriers and Willy Wag Tails clipping the tail feathers of Wedge Tailed Eagles but never the "line up" before so it pays to view your images carefully before hitting the "Del" key

So Breeze handles the RAW file can it do any editing or does it then save as a Photoshop PSD? My Photoshop 7 wont handle Nikon RAW! (Canon yes)
Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Chris did your Nikon come with its own software? I use the proprietary Canon RAW converter which is designed to work best with Canon Cameras, slower but much better than PS.
Yes BB does some adjustments but I only use it as a method of quickly culling my images but it is a great program.

Gus
Yes the Nikon came with its own RAW but by all accounts its pretty ordinary and produced something like 60mb TIFF's. I was hoping to find something one day that converted to Photoshop's own PSD uncompressed format.
I'll have another play I think. I quickly cull using Picasa or Window$ own viewer but I'm not filtering out 4,000 images

Funny bastard Gus
We had a Barn Owl brought in this morning. It had been attached by a pair of Magpies and was bleeding on top of its head.
My parnter works at one of the local vets so we sent the guy up there. Beautiful bird and seemed uninjured otherwise. I'll txt here to see how they went.
We also had a 3 week old Pacific Black Duck yesterday that had probably been dropped by a Hawk or similar. He's doing ok actually.
