Lets keep the fun in this thread. No one is pretending to be a pro. Or are we?

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
I got dust in my 60D while I was overseas, carting it around and having to change lenses, its not really a good tourist camera. So while away I bought a Canon G12 which is taking great photos and is light to carry around, extreme amount of control and very hard to get dust inside it.

@Hammy
Thanks for the heads up Hammy, you are right, it is due to my downright laziness, the image is an almost straight conversion from RAW to Jpeg all my fine adjustments are done in 16 or 32 Bit TIFFS which are huge files which require a lot of work then reconverted to 8 Bit Jpegs. All my newer cameras have sensor cleaning when turned on and off this was a 30D which did not and I was lazy and for that I apologize.
Sensor now clean again. Thanks mate

Remember the drought, from a ride down the Great Ocean Road West of Apollo Bay a couple of years into the drought.

No worries. I used to have a 30D. Now the 50D. Still have to clean it manually sometimes though. I like the shot of the drought. Great colours.

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
I'm looking forward to adding some stuff here as I learn this DSLR caper. Migrated from a Canon Powershot a130 to Nikon D7000... 2WA, shot is on our 20 acre block in central VIC, all the rain, the place has never looked so good with truck loads of wattle. Whislt i'm cheating at the moment using all the inbuilt stuff and JPEG, I will get into the raw and waste space on the 2 x 32 SD cards I have installed to learn!

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Last Mondays full moon shot over Lake Wellington.
I need some advice on how to take better moon shots.
I'm using;
Appature priority (f5.6)
200mm Lens
400 ISO
Tripod
Wireless Remote
Nikon D90
Fire away if you have any ideas.

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Hi Chris
Top shot is overexposed and moon shots should be always shot in Manual Mode with the image underexposed (Fast shutter speed) try different settings and if you have any experience play with your White Balance.
I shoot ISO 400 and you should be able to hand hold if your shutter speed on a 200mm lens is 1/250 or faster.
The moon on its own is generally pretty boring unless you are using a 1200mm lens, try shooting it behind or between the clouds so that its reflected light illuminates the clouds.
Still a good image.
I prefer the second shot but it needs space around it.

Thanks Chris. Thats the sort of info I'm after.
Second shot had space until I cropped it. So fair point.
I can hand hold the 200mm lens down to about 1/60th so the speed is ok.
I was thinking of going shutter priority next time. What speed do you think? 1/125th The shots will become more and more under exposed as the moon rises. I'll need to carry a small led torch I think. The Full manual mode is a bit of a pain to set up shot to shot on the D90 if you dont get it right in the first place and the moon rises to quick to be mucking around.
I was hoping for a little more cloud for some back lighting effects but I guess you can’t have everything
Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Chris some sites to visit.
The first allows you to download and save your Camera's full Manual in PDF format much easier to learn all your camera's functions with the instructions on the screen and the camera in your hands, the others will give you lots of info on using the D90, use the web for info it has EVERYTHING you will need any curly questions, just email or pm me.
