Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
First topic message reminder :
Who's planning on doing the WSBK's in February, and who is interested in getting a house on the island?
There are plenty of options but we'd need to know who wants to join in to get a idea of what size place we'd need?
Going
Hammy + Mate
Ewok & Bev
madmax
Chook
reddog and Mrs reddog
Barry & Axle

We'll (myself, madmax, Barry & Axel) be covering that on my way homeEwok1958 wrote:Western Victoria can be very boring if you are just riding to gain distance (as we all sometimes have to do). But for a bit of scenery, I'd go this way (slower and longer but much more scenic):

aiming for something like this on the Friday/Saturday after the WSBKs
If anyone else wants to join us, we're booked into the Grampians Gardens Caravan Park, Hall Gap on the Friday night
Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
For your option 3 I've ridden Mt Gambier, Nelson, Mt Richmond, Portland.
It's no better or worse than any of the other roads down there. Its not in sight of the coast and its the same flat, sandy country as all the areas towards the Bight.

Thank's Tag, I was leaning towards that but might give it a miss, I thought it might have had good scenery#Tag wrote:For your option 3 I've ridden Mt Gambier, Nelson, Mt Richmond, Portland.

I've driven #4. It wasn't a bad trip and a few things to detour to see or stop at along the way.

Thanks Chris, any idea what the Option 5 (Casterton - Heywood) version of that is like?2wheelsagain wrote:I've driven #4. It wasn't a bad trip and a few things to detour to see or stop at along the way.

Lots of Blue Gums and Pines and fairly flat but probably still nice enough. 4 is good because you cross the southern end of the Grampians.

I just read it's going to be pushing close to 40 deg in Adelaide next Monday
Now to decide if I want a 7 - 8 hour day in stinking heat or split it into to a 2 day ride and leave Sunday
It is supposed to be much cooler than that around Portland/Warrnambool, Naracoorte is around 40 as well, Mt Gambier is even high 30's
Now to decide if I want a 7 - 8 hour day in stinking heat or split it into to a 2 day ride and leave Sunday

well you could always do what I saw a couple of lads do yesterday.....
I went for an early mountain lap, on the out skirts of Brisbane, and I passed a couple of blokes wearing shorts and tee shirts!!!!!
now there`s an option??????

You shouldn't even need to go into the CBD, if you keep on the freeway.reddog wrote:Yes @chook lunch time to be precise

Sounded to good to be true, but just sounds like a real genuine guy.... and yep I reckon the boot and back seat will hold enough beer etc. To get us through a couple of days
Btw what is the address of the beach shack? My GPS b (wife) will require it. Oh and the closest bottle shop

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
Last day of work for nearly 3 weeks
4 days 'till I hit the road, forecast 40-41 deg here in SA that day but supposed to get cooler after I travel South of Naracoorte
5 days 'till I finally get to ride the GOR.....and they are forecasting low 20's and showers
7 days 'till we arrive at the island
I know some of you are leaving earlier, safe travels, see you there!!

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
Thanks reddog, no worries about me and stops now, in my 20's I used to stop for fuel when I needed it, I can remember doing Albury - Horsham in the early 90's with 1 stop on a 45 deg day.reddog wrote:See you when we are looking at you buddy. Now days I'll chuck in a 5-10 min walk/stretch after 1 1/2 hrs, the next one's a bit longer while I'll fuel up, if it's a real stinker I'll probably take a few more quick water stops as well
Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
C Ya soon Chook. And everyone else. As stated. Ride and travel safe. Hasn't the whole countries weather gone crazy ? Lets hope that the weather gods are looking down over our little group of travelers.
My mate Barry and I will be hitting the road on sunday. Meeting up with Ewok and Tag on monday.

You hope -
I rang DavEwok today to check he was home before taking some stuff out for Bev to take down in the car. He was tearing his hair out because he'd mounted his phone to the bike for satnav and it wouldn't work for love or money. By the time I got there he was looking relieved and said - "It's fine now - I turned the phone off and on and it's working all good like."

I fear we're going to find out the hard way how well this thing works!
PS: And Bev has been told to dump the drugs in the Genoa River!
