Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
First topic message reminder :
Who's planning on doing the WSBK's in February, and who is interested in getting a house on the island?
There are plenty of options but we'd need to know who wants to join in to get a idea of what size place we'd need?
Going

I just checked the email, I received it 16/11/15, it was titled "Your ezyTicket(s) are attached - MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship - GA"
Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
I remember when I ordered mine you could e-ticket, or register mail for the same price - I was going to get them sent out just so they would have to shell out some of their profit on the postage, but knowing my luck they would have got lost, so went with the print-out version.

My wife sorted it out today. Got tickets and super keen to get on the jet plane. Just got to figure out how to drive through Melbourne from the airport.

You are going to need to use Toll roads, Google Maps says it should take you less than 2 hours
I opened a Melbourne Pass account for the time I'm there, rental cars have other options as well

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
Apart from the tolls it's really easy - expressway straight out of the airport almost all the way to the Island.
M2 out of the airport to the city, onto the M1, onto the South Gippsland Freeway (or Koo Wee Rup Rd C422) which turns into the Bass Hwy straight to Mecca.

Don't stress about paying the tolls. They're well worth it to keep out of stop start traffic.

Cheers guys. Just the info I was hoping for. I have been to Melbourne before so I understand these weird hook turns etc we don't have any such thing in little old WA. Actually the town I live in has 1set of lights and about 5 roundabouts. We also have 5 pubs

Those weird hook turns are only there because of the trams. Because of that they make perfect sense

Haha. I know what you are saying. There is one house between my family and reasonable size cattle farm. They occasionally fly gliders out of there too. My mate and I have landed his ultra light there before as well. The landing was far better than the take off through the cow pats.

Dilemma-Which way to go..........
I've been looking at route option to get me from home in suburban Adelaide to Warrnambool on day 1 (next Monday) of my trip to Philip Island.
The 1st 1/2 day is easy, 2 choices:
Adelaide to Tailem Bend, then follow the Coorong and onto Mt Gambier (I'm ruling that out, there's too many roos along the Coorong)
Adelaide to Naracoorte, 340km, boring as hell but it'll get me on the way to where I need to be - this will be my first 4 hours, hoping to be there by 10 or 11:00 am
The rest is my dilemma, there are way too many choices, I know the main highways are in pretty good shape but I have no idea about some of the other roads, particularly in Victoria, nor do I have much of a idea of good scenery etc.
Does anyone know anything about road condition, services, scenery, even a few nice bends etc on any of the routes?
Option 1 - 282 km, Google Maps time 3:13
Option 2 - 275 km, 3:19
Option 3 - 296 km, 3:30
Option 4 - 269 km, 3:22
Option 5 - 270 km, 3:25
Option 6 - 278 km, 3:20, I'll probably avoid this one on the trip over as I'll be doing most of it on the way home

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
Western Victoria can be very boring if you are just riding to gain distance (as we all sometimes have to do). But for a bit of scenery, I'd go this way (slower and longer but much more scenic):

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
On the way to Edenhope Mike and I stopped at Warrnambool and headed up to Hamilton for the night.
The next day we headed to Naracoorte. Must have been something like Option 4 because I don't recall going through Penola.
I don't recall the roads being too much of a problem. One stretch was had a narrow bitumen piece in the centre but not much traffic to worry you. Traffic you did meet moved right over and let us stay on the bitumen.
Some parts the scenery was spectacular .
Either way you choose you shouldn't have too much trouble. Roadworks of course are an unknown issue.
