First topic message reminder :

Thanks for all the help I got from just introducing myself on the "Newbie"  forum.

I just got this '07 1250S ("S", I think, because it came with the fairing ?)

The PO removed the PAIR with the TPO kit, but didn't install a resistor.
I still have to do that, where do you get the resistor ?

I had the bike 4 days and it wouldn't start, "No Spark". I bought it "NOT running". Since I don't play the lottery, this is my form of "Gambling"...

After I removed the PC3, the Fl light kept flashing. I jumped the wires and it said C-23 (Tip-Over sensor) so I finally found the TO Sensor, and the PO installed it upside down so I just set it upright on top of the battery and BAM, she fired-up !!

That was a relief to hear it run.

I have it running, although barely, the #1 and 2 cylinders are not firing.
I warmed it up a little to change the oil and filter and the two left pipes didn't get hot like the other 2 cylinders.
I will try new plugs first, it had the Iridium NGK's but I will replace them with a set CR7E
It won't run if you let go of the grip.
It will idle though down to 800 rpms, but when you let go of the grip it stalls.

The fuel pump is running even with the key OFF. I completely emptied the tank and added 2.2 US Gal. of fresh 93 octane fuel
Every time I shut the engine off I have to unplug the fuel pump.

So NEXT on the list:
Get cylinders 1 and 2 firing, and find out why the fuel pump keeps running.
Oh I need that resistor too.

Otherwise everything seems to be OK except the PO "Ratted-Out" the bike to make it look like it was in the movie "Mad Max"
He Hacked off the bottom of the Fairing (it looks like he us ed a hacksaw)and otherwise made it look like trash.
It does have almost NEW Bridgestone's on it.
I picked it up for less then $500, with a clear Florida title. I transferred the title today

I'm gonna resurrect it to it's former "Glory" !!
It only has 12k mi. on it too.

Thanks for your help SBA Forum !!

Ride Safe !!

Plus I couldn't find a good pictorial "how-to" on the forum or the web.

Have look at this youtube how to, gives some hints on how to get the seal past the nicks (at 12:40 into the clip) plus a couple of home made tools he uses:

1250 maladies - Page 5 Empty It's a "Labor of Love" !!

Post  captbruce Wed 08 Oct 2014, 11:19 am

I have new upper tubes coming to finish the front forks, seal replacement job.
I knew the old tubes would just eat-up the new seals. The left fork is the only leaker and it's leaking worse
then ever now. I keep a piece of cardboard under it.

So I decided to finish painting the rear wheel, while I had all the supplies out after doing the front wheel
The front wheel came out so nice.

Here's a pix of what the Key West salt enviornment did to aluminum, lifting the paint.

I removed the rear wheel, and used a wire cup on my Makita 4" grinder (13k RPM), to take off the old paint
and primer. Then I wet sanded it with 220 grit.

I cleaned it with Laquer thinner and masked it off and applied 2 coats of Rustoleum Aluminum Primer.
Each coat was scratched with 320 and cleaned with Laquer thinner.

1250 maladies - Page 5 1459

I then applied two coats of Rustoleum Flat Black

1250 maladies - Page 5 1460

All coats were allowed to throughly dry in the Florida Sun and were scratched and cleaned before applying a
new coat.

Here's the finished result.

Only time will tell how long it will last.

I just thought I'd keep you posted.

You may have seen that I recently painted my wheels (gold).  A bit dissimilar to your job in that I didn't have tyres fitted at the time so there was less masking.  But one additional thing I did was get hold of some clearcoat wheels paint (readily available in auto stores) and put three coats of that over the top of the colour paint.  I'm hoping it makes it more chip resistant or at least much easier to clean.

Keep up the good work.

I tried clearcoat on my fairing paint job, and it looked so bad I painted Black over it again.
It made the gloss Black look Gray and opaque.

Did you use a Spray Can or a Pro paint sprayer ?

I used Rustoleum Clear paint. Do you think that different than "Clearcoat".

No, I just used a spraycan from the auto store - it was a Duplicolor Wheel Clear.  I'll get the exact details tomorrow.

A solid colour should be ok without clear, only metallics and pearls really need clear

1250 maladies - Page 5 Empty New fork tubes installed !!

Post  captbruce Thu 16 Oct 2014, 8:37 am

My New fork tubes, arrived yesterday and were installed today !!
Thanks for that great video from Delboys Garage.
It went Easy-Peasy !!

I got the PAIR of tubes off eBay for $130 with DHL Express shipping.
(from China) The seller assured me they would fit, and after a few more emails with a timely response
my offer was accepted on Oct 6th and used PayPal.
I had them at my door Oct. 14th.

8 days from China is pretty good turn around. I've bought stuff from California and took longer then 8 days !!

The best I could do in the States was $280/pair.

Thanks for your help SBA FORUM !!
