TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
Well, Ive been looking around to buy another TL after inspiration from Gus and Ive found a pretty good deal on a TLR close to home. So I thought I'd do a little bit of homework on Greenslip prices and such so I know exactly how much I would be up for. And yep, you guessed it, the TLR 1000 Supersport V-Twin is half the price of my much more refined Bandit. All quotes for the Bandit are upwards of $600 where as I can get the TL for $316. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the criteria for Greenslips as all they go on is engine capacity. Change 996cc to 1157cc and double your premium. So Im assuming R1s and Gixxers are half the price of a bandit aswell. On this alone, I think the Bandit & I may be nearing the end of our relationship:( . If I decide to sell my much loved beast I'll naturally post it here first. I'd love get some input from you guys, the inconsistency in Greenslip pricing is just breathtaking don't you think?

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
I agree, there's lots of thing we put up with that don't make sense, like sections of the Pacific Highway that used to carry a lot of traffic and were 100kph, now that they've been bypassed can only carry the smaller amount of traffic safely at 80kph!
As for Green Slips, horsepower or maybe power to weight ratio would be a better criterion.
No-one said these people were smart.

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
yeah that sucks.
In the ACT, rego is one price for 300cc and below, and a higher price for anything over that.....

Yeah. Dont need to buy a Harley now eh?
Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
You're right it does need to be changed. The issue is that right now what they have done is created 'groups' based on a range of CC's. Then the price of the CTP is based on the number of claims made within that group.
The reason why Bandits are so expensive is because it falls in to the same group as other sports/tourers and cruisers which happen to have the largest number of CTP claims made against them. Effectively if middle-aged returning motorcyclists stopped crashing while carrying their middle-aged wives, it wouldn't be a problem.

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
SA splits it into 4 engine size categories and then metro/country
Over 660cc in metro areas is $259, country is $241 so long as you cant claim tax credits for the vehicle, if you can it goes up to $292/$259
https://www.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/18152/MR85_05-13_30-05-13.pdf
It is still government controlled and is paid with your rego in the one bill, my whole rego/ctp, fees for this and that is less than the cheapest price in NSW
We've got the dearest electricity in the country but our rego's not too bad

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
NT slugs us $824.25.
If bike needs an inspection add $40 to that. (We have mandatory periodic inspections)
Break down...
$33 rego
$711.15 CTP insurance
$71.10 GST on the CTP
$9.00 Admin fee
$40 inspection
----------------
$864.25 per annum, about the same as an 11 seater landcurser.
To add insult to injury, our government CTP insurer - Territory Insurance Office (TIO) is the only insurer we can use.
TIO was recently (last week) sold by the guvmint.
It was subsequently admitted by the TIO chairman that the CTP scheme is well overfunded and so the government will keep that profit making part. Isn't hard to see why they're making such a profit....

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
CTP in Queensland is around $270 per year.
If you register the bike as "single seat" which requires seat and footpeg changes the CTP reduces to $85 per year
Same insurance companies as NSW but amazingly different insurance costs.
Go figure.

Re: TLR vs BANDIT Greenslip Prices.
interesting situation you have going on there in Ozland. Here in 7th Heaven we have ACC which is paid as a levy on our rego (which you probably all know about anyway). well over $500 for the year for my FA plus another $600 for insurance plus annual inspections. Mind you the insurance is not compulsory and as my bike is a 2014 first compulsory inspection is not due until May 2017.
We pay shit loads more for fuel as well.
Does seem odd the LAMS set up makes allowances for power to weight ratio but the taxation scheme does not. There are plenty of 7-800cc bikes can put out more HP than my humble TNAB :-)
Moral? someone else is always worse off than you :-)

I thought we in the UK were the ones who got fleeced- seems not, insurance wise anyway.I paid £247 pounds fully comprehensive for cover on my GSX1250FA and KTM 1190 Adventure, and this included 12 months European break down cover.Thats for both bikes.Whats that, about $375? Still, you get all the good weather.

A bit more than that.
247 GBP = 454.24 AUD Still very good for 2 bikes
Greenslip insurance is for personal injury only and is additional to the registration. In some states in Australia it is left separate (but still compulsory) to the rego. Others such as Victoria it is included with the rego, with mine being about $635 in total.
Add to that full comp insurance for the bike at about $520. Over $1100 for rego and all insurances
