Another Greenslip rant....
Hey guys,
As many of you know a owned a 2009 naked 1250 a few years ago and ended up selling it to buy a dirtbike.
I missed the big naked bike feel so last year i bought a Honda CB1300. Love the thing.
What i didnt miss...and what i forgot about was the greenslip prices in NSW.
Mine is due this week. I knew it was going to be high. but i wasnt quite prepared for the $1400 hit (inc rego).
$1400 for a bike that gets ridden once a month.
Cant justify paying that so looks like its back to a smaller bike for me

Thats insane mate. I guess you have accident insurance on top of that?
Vic reg inc TAC insurance is about $580 for me (rural) for each bike. I think Vic has under and over 500cc for real bikes.
Full comp ins on the VFR is about $450 and $300 for the MV. Sounds like you need a Vic address. We do have extreme speed enforcement here so maybe you're pre paying a fine as well

The Greenslip for the Bandit last year was $474.11. I can't see why a CB1300 should be so much more.

Im only 26. So they sting me for that.
I only have third party insurance. Full comp is another $1000, which would make it close to $2500...half the cost of the bike.

$474.11 for the Greenslip, that's just the 3rd party personal injury right??
Then you have to pay Rego as well?
Is rural cheaper than city?
I paid mine last week, city (highest) price, $479 for rego, 3rd party personal, stamp duty and a couple of other levies tacked on to screw a bit more out of us, if I lived rural it'd be cheaper again
Re: Another Greenslip rant....
We have Green slip (compulsary third party), AND rego, And then normal insurance.Chook wrote:Ewok1958 wrote:The Greenslip for the Bandit last year was $474.11. I can't see why a CB1300 should be so much more.

A 600cc bike for my age is only about $400 so thats why ill be making the swap...or a pre 1987 bike and put it on historic plates.

CTP is included in our overall registration cost and it doesn't make any difference how old you are.
We had a CTP shake up a few years back, they looked at where the payouts were actually going and changed a lot of premiums, my bike went from being dearer than my 6 cyl car to being cheaper than our 4 cyl car pretty much overnight.
BTW Cameron, any chance of catching up with us (myself, madmax, Baz +anyone else that decides to join us) while we're over for the Festival of Speed late March, pretty sure where we are staying isn't too far from you.

Yep, CTP (= Greenslip) was $474.11, then rego was $124.00. On top of that, comprehensive insurance, which is optional of course. People have their own preference for comprehensive insurance for many reasons. I'm using Youi for the Bandit. That's another $292.22.

Re: Another Greenslip rant....
I'm paying $400 a year for comprehensive, that includes 2 helmets, 2 x riding gear, luggage, and they've still got it valued at $9K and it's 5 years old, I'd probably be better off writing it off
Re: Another Greenslip rant....
Vicroads rego for 500cc and above, metro area = $658.60 which includes CTP, rego, stamp duty, the tax on a tax, and any other taxes they can come up with.
Maybe I should buy some kind of road lice, something under 60cc then it drops to $140.50

So, if I'm reading it right, Vic is more expensive (metro area) for a Bandit than I'm paying in NSW, ie $658.60 vs $598.11. But 2WA (country area) is getting it slightly cheaper at about $580. I don't know if NSW differentiates on the basis of rural vs metro.

Yeah I think from memory there is 3 price levels for area.
I'll have to look tomorrow as the Vicroads website is down for maintenance over night.

Re: Another Greenslip rant....
My renewal (within a month) Rural NSW for the 1250 Bandit:
$399 for the CTP. - I haven't shopped around yet.
$126 for the Rego
I don't know anything about prices different for people of different ages. I'm 65. My only concern in that direction is that I continue to get older.
