Fuel guage .
First topic message reminder :
I hated this fuel guage at the start .Now i hate it even more. When the last bars flash there is over 100 kls left , way to many to stop .
When i notice the last bar and bouser flash together there could be less than 20 kls .to little .
I have run out of fuel more times on this bike than any other .Looking at the manual it seem to operate buy a float on an arm .
If i was to bend the arm and float UP the bouser and last block should flash earlier leaving say 50 kls .
Get the idea .How does this sound ,have i missed something ?

Re: Fuel guage .
It must be obvious I'm not worried about the NEXT owner ,its my bike .
It will take 5 seconds to bend that arm ,if it doent work , 5 seconds to bend it back .
Secondaries were a much bigger mod than this .Is the bike better for it ? Sure is .
Most common ride is home to Kenilworth. The way i like 60 kls ,no fuel stations on the way . Dash tells me i've got between 1.5 and 5.5 lts.
Being an optimist i think i need 3.5 so "i;ll be right ". Ten kays down the road bowser starts flashing .I'm not going to make it .
Now with a reserve tap with 3.5 ltr for reserve i know i'll make it before i leave .
Give me the tap anyday . And i can have sex AFTER a ride, because i wont be in the mood after pushing the bike 4 kls .

Re: Fuel guage .
Bandit S doesn't have reserve trip meter like GSXF does.
I use the trip meter combined with fuel gauge (I found the bandit gauge pretty accurate and consistent) to determine kms left in the tank.
Usually I will do a "everyday" run and then work out consumption. Once that is done I'll do a "cain the piss out of it" run and work out consumption. That will give me a pretty good indication of range in the tank.
If it is on your mind that much then bend the arm and keep an eye on things so that it works for you. Afterall it is your bike and you want it how you want it.

Re: Fuel guage .
I cant understand why people run there tanks so low. I was always told not to go under quater of a tank. all the shit that is in your tank settles to the bottom and every time you run your bike low the fuel pump sits on the bottom of the tank and sucks all the shit in to the filter and pump itself, as we have seen with Gus's fuel pump fix. Sames as the older bikes with a reserve tap. when you have the tap on ON its drawing its fuel from a inch above the bottom but you flick it on to RES and the shit starts to clog up the inline filter if you have one and then your jets. Reserve should be emergency only

Re: Fuel guage .
That hight be a good idea .When i took the tank apart the other day ,it was quite clean but there was a little crap in there .I only cleanrd it out
8.ooo ago . Every one grab a tortch and have a look in that hole in the top of the tank tonight .See anything that has drowned ?
I'm having trouble understanding how the fuel float thing works . With 5.5 ltr left i guess a elec con . is made .
But with 1.5 lt left i carnt see how the float can still be in the fuel . 1.5 lt spreed over the base of the tank is nothing .I dont think the float will drop
down that far .
What triggers the bouser and last bar to flash ?

While you had your float guage out Gus, did you hook it back up to the power supply and have a fiddle ?

Re: Fuel guage .
I have nothing helpful to add except I'm with Gus, that flashing bar is anoying coming on so early. I ride 300kms and when the last bar starts flashing I ride with the cheeks clenched and panic.
This seems to work as I've never run out of fuel.
I would have thought a different program or sensor ie some sort of upload that stops the last bar flash until the sensor / arm gets lower would be simple for
someone that understands that stuff .
I would probably stuff up the arm bending so no I'm not volunteering.

Re: Fuel guage .
I'm more than willing to bend the arm ,but if i do in a bid to get 2.5 lts on final res (instead of 1.5 ) It means the bouser will start flashing even
earlier (6.5 ) Its all too confusing .
At the moment 5.5 is about 100 kays so ill ride 50 and then look for gas . This guage is old school ,most guages will tell you how far you can get
untill bike will stop .I'll put up with it .

Stick with old school, the last 2 Commodores I had said they had 0km remaining when in fact out of 75L they still had 10L left, the manufacturers tend to be very conservative. Still that's 13% of the capacity, on the bike 5L reserve is 23% of the 19L tank.
fuel guage
my 04 bandit had a reserve tap & when in the on position still worked by vacuum . I wonder if you could fit one of those to your bike .

Re: Fuel guage .
Saw the flashing bar and flashing bowser symbol the other day on my Vee at ~320kms. I've been giving it a bit of a flogging tho.
By comparison the wifes Wee has done a shad over 200kms since refilling and the gauge hasn't lost the first bar yet. Guna be interesting to see what kind of econ comes out of this tank of fuel.

My bike is nigh on dead empty at the 250km mark. I agree about the seat giving the rear a fair old beating by that mileage.holdenman wrote:by 250km my arse is usually needs a break and i need drink and food. I have never seen my bike go below 2 bars
