Changing Spark Plugs
I put a set of colder heat range plugs in after being told that the bike was running way too lean, and I shouldn't ride it until it's been on the Dyno. This was before I joined this forum and the fuel ecomy was crap and backfiring on the downshift was driving me nuts. After 343klm yesterday I pulled a plug out. Any plug readers out there? The porcelain is not blistered just snow white. The electrodes are grey but the outside edge of the plug is black. Sorry about the blur the camera's not good.

If you put "devils work " into Search "box " and click on it you will see a pic of a plug .That to me is about right ,cardboard colour .
Any chance of a better pic of your plug .?

Hopefully you can see this one better. In real life it's a lot darker around the outer edge, and the porcelain is whiter. [img][/img]

Thanks Reardo. So it looks like they're normal.

No problem mate. I'm not an expert, It's Google that makes me look goodKaupy1962 wrote:Thanks Reardo. So it looks like they're normal.
AFR Guage
Next project is to rig up my AFR Guage to see what fuel mixture I'm burning at various throttle positions and rpms. The installation instructions on my FI tuner said to disconnect the o2 sensor wire from pin26 on the large ECU plug, so I'm going to use it to run my guage. I'll post an outcome when I've finished

Re: Changing Spark Plugs
Stock O2 sensor may not give enough info to calc a true AFR (narrow band -v- wide band)
My suggestion is to do the full install of the Fi tuner and then plonk him on a dyno for a few runs to determine true AFR and adjust from there.
Fi Tuner is pretty easy to use and tune, IMO not too dissimilar to PC3/5 so a good tuner should get it pretty good for about the same coin as a PC3/5 tune. You'll just need to bring along your laptop with the software on it.

What's the going rate for a Dyno round abouts?

Re: Changing Spark Plugs
When I got mine done it was about 300 clams. But that was for a bike that didn't have a base tune in the PowerCommander datatabase. Normally it is just time of the operator, so if it's an hour you may be lucky and get away with $150
BTW your plug looks normal so why worry?

Changing Spark plugs
Yeah I thought it was normal. It's just the red glow in the muffler now that worries me. I don't want to stuff the motor.

Any way. I just scored a brand new wide band o2 sensor for $5.50 on Ebay and it's still in the packet.
