Fuel guage .
I hated this fuel guage at the start .Now i hate it even more. When the last bars flash there is over 100 kls left , way to many to stop .
When i notice the last bar and bouser flash together there could be less than 20 kls .to little .
I have run out of fuel more times on this bike than any other .Looking at the manual it seem to operate buy a float on an arm .
If i was to bend the arm and float UP the bouser and last block should flash earlier leaving say 50 kls .
Get the idea .How does this sound ,have i missed something ?

Re: Fuel guage .
Read the manual Gus. The last bar flashing is get to a fuel station quick smart as you have 4 litres left. No bars flashing means theres about a litre left as far as I can remember. The orignal Bandit with analogue guage is a much better idea than digital. It's be better if the digital was in percentage rather than bars

Re: Fuel guage .
I have red the manual Reddod. Last bar flashes with 5.5 ltr left .At touring speed thats over 100 kls left .Hardly panic stations , i can make the
next town with that .
Just tell me when i have 3 ltr left would be better ,not 5.5 and 1.5 .One .5 should say
Chips if its on my bike its got to work properly . I carnt ignore it ,it like snoring ,you just carnt ignore it .
I'm bending the float arm .

Re: Fuel guage .
If you know there is 5.5 litres left when last bar flashes and that will be ~100kms, why change anything as you know what it all means.
Unless you're looking for something to do of course, but IMO leave it alone. It works, you know what it tells you, no need to fix it.

that would depend if you`re a sprinter or a stayer
if you really give it shit you may only get 12 km/per ltr or less so maybe 50 - 60 km

Re: Fuel guage .
that sux,my oil burners gauge is pretty consistant, but i don`t use it, i go by my reserve, with out fail if i fill up at the reserve point, it always gives me 5.4L ,and I know exactly how far I can go,with out the worry of the gauge shitting itself, or being inaccurate.

Re: Fuel guage .
Surely when the last bar flashes, that is ample warning to know that you will have to pull in at the next bowser or two. A quick look at one of the 2 trip meters could let you know how many ks are left, give or take. I think fiddleing with the float could lead to more trouble.

Re: Fuel guage .
That assuming you filled the tank .I dont have any cards so i might only have $2o .
$15 fuel gives me a ride and $5 a coffee . I just carnt bring myself to fuel up when i
have 100 kl still in the tank .Like i said this guage sucks .Though it appears i stand
alone . Tank about to be taken off .

Fuel guage .
I had a look in the tank when the last bar flashes. The fuel level is about 8mm from the bottom of the tank. I reckon I'd only get another 50ks at most out of that.

Re: Fuel guage .
I dont see how you can alter the float level reading for the last "bar", without effecting the reading of a full tank. Will wait and see the outcome of Gus's tinkering.

Re: Fuel guage .
I think I understand your theory, although I wouldn`t do it. How much do you intend to bend the arm? If you know how much you can get out of the bike, and the gauge is pissing you off, put a piece of fashionable tape over the bars,or better yet, take it off and throw it away.

Re: Fuel guage .
My thinking (and i could be very wrong ,but at least its thinking ) Bend arm UP ,meaning float height is higher .Fill tank, fuel will just over take
float .I mean when you fill, you look in the tank, not at the guage .
When the elec . connection is made with 1.5 lt left the float height will be higher giving you more fuel .
But does the float height work in 1.5lt thats stuff all !

Re: Fuel guage .
I've never trusted fuel guages. When I get a new vehicle (car or bike) for the first month or so I work out the minimum range I can get from a tank and then fill up at about that distance. I've been caught out in the past, in a car not on the bike. I thought I had enough fuel to get to the next town, while I thought right and indeed did make the next town, the town didn't have a service station. So going cap in hand to a few locals (farmers) saw me putting in 15 litres so I could get to the next town, which they assured me had a service station that was open.

Re: Fuel guage .
I wouldn't piss about with the fuel sender at all.
I'm with B12mick on this one, I zero my trip meter everytime I fill up. I know the minimum normally is around the 250 mark these days in normal road riding conditions, although I have seen just over 110Kms to dead empty before as well
If you rely on the fuel guage then good stuff. I'd rather be watching Kms since last fuel stop.

Re: Fuel guage .
This is the float and sender ,Very basic .(like me )
Seeing i'm having problems getting the right resistor for the pair system, and i broke the porcelain resistor on the heated grips ,so i have
to get another one for that .I figured 2 problems were enough at one time so i put it back together as is .I did clean the 2 fuel filters and
swilled out the tank .Pretty clean but not perfect .

Re: Fuel guage .
if you do end up messing with the float, you'll end up messing with the next owner.
IMO go and have a crank, it's more productive
