Sprocket / Speedo ?
Hi all, just a quick question if anyone could help.
Ref: 1200s Bandit K3 Model.
I installed a 14 T front sprocket and Std rear sprocket when i replaced the chain
The issue i have is the speedo is actually reading 20 km/h "Slower"? eg: indicated speed 40km/h is actually 60km/h - indicated speed 80km/h actual speed 100km/h and so on...
tested with a mate riding along side me with a brand new stock as a rock imitation bandit (fz6)
Correct me if i am wrong but shouldn't the speedo be reading faster? and if so what could be causing this??
any help would be great as its got me stumped...
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sprocket / Speedo ?
If you dropped a tooth on the front sprocket, then your engine will be reving higher for any given road speed, also the output shaft of the transmission will be turning faster, and, assuming you have an electronic speedo, not mechanical off the front wheel like mine. The pick-up (where it gets the pulses to count) will be on the output of the transmission, as this is the only part that has a constant relationship to the road speed. I hope this is clear now.

I agree, but why would my speedo actually be showing a slower speed? as far as i know it should be reading faster ?

Oops your right
So it was alright before you changed the chain/sprockets?
Just remembered, the 2004 model engine I put in my bike had an encoder on the sprocket (piece of metal with bumps all around) could that have been put back wrong or in a different relation to the pick-up so it is reading less bumps?

Re: Sprocket / Speedo ?
Found the issue with the speedo reading 20 k's slower, the washer with the 4 lugs that gives the signal had 1 lug borken
so instead of 4 pick up points its only got 3, Oh well looks like a trip to the suzuki dealer
for anyone that wants to know its the washer that goes over the front sprocket before you put the allen head bolt through.

If it's not available or ridiculously priced, let me know and I will look for the one I took off my engine.
