Which I am reliably informed was hit by a bolt of lightening which killed an entire family of Leadbeater's Possums and the last remaining family of Orange-Bellied Parrots in Victoria, the tree then fell crushing to death the only pair of Tasmanian Wolfs or Thylacines in the middle of their thirty year breeding cycle, 42,000 Bull Ants are also known to have perished in this catastrophe that rivals the devastation caused by the Election of Julia Gillard and that pathetic do nothing W*@KER, Ted "Pull the other one" Bullpit, Sorry Baillieu, sadly Swans were also crushed by the news that Ted Baillieu is now our Premier.

Not a good year for Swans.

That's some bolt of lightning, the tree was found in Wollumbin National Park NSW with what appeared to be a saw-cut on it.lliquidlen wrote:

It was obviously moved in a spurious effort to cover up the heinous ecological crime.

Oh how funny this would be if it wasn't so true. I feel myself slipping further and further into a state of depression. No wait ! I already live in Queensland. Maybe it is just a slight case of indigestion. Burp !, Ahhh, that's better.

While out in the garden this morning, I just about stepped on this lovely lady. Very still, but Not dead. And how do I know that She is a She ? When I turned to my left, there was her boyfriend. Even bigger , and looking at me with a serious face. I think I might have walked in on a " nature " moment. I have left them to it.

Hammy! Is that a Bearded Dragon? if it is and you have a pair they make great pets and sell for about $400 each but I assume you would need a permit to keep them.

Yes lliquidlen, that is what they are. Been in the yard ( we have a large one ) for some time, but this is the first time that I have seen a female. The resident male must have enticed her over. smooth hisser he is.

Here's todays "snap shot" these things are bloody hard to get through the passenger window from the drivers seat.

Try chopping their wings off.
Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Nice Bird Chris, but the first rule of bird photography, is no eye no shot.
Every tenet of bird (and animal) photography dictates that the primary point of focus is the eye, no matter how beautiful the bird is, if the eye is not clear AND in perfect focus, don't pull the trigger, and yes I understand how hard that can be.

Fully agree Chris. Its a bit hard when they're flying away from you.
Point taken and I did call it "a snap shot".
I was hoping for some wing and feather detail which I got.
The pic is heavily cropped though.
Must set up some camo netting one day

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Good tip about the eyes, thanks.
This one had potential except for a badly place leaf, which just proves the point.

I see your 2 eyes and raise you hundreds
Av mode 200mm f11 800 ISO RAW > TIF > JPG
Av mode 200mm f5 800 ISO RAW > TIF > JPG
A friend very graciously has loaned me a Canon EOS 30D and 70 - 200mm high end lens to have a play with.
These shots were just a quick play after work trying to figure out how to drive a Canon which is similar but not the same as a Nikon
First impressions 1. Blindingly fast focus 2. Heavy shutter button 3. Brilliant lens 4. I need to improve

I'm intersted in your observations Chris. I'm a fan of gadgets and after recently upgrading from a Canon Powershot A30 to a Nikon D7000, I feel rather, ahem, small and insignificant...but I'll get there!

Baz I'd think any DSLR body these days are much more capable than the average photographer
Don't get me wrong I love my Nikon D90 and I must also include my 18 - 55mm lens but this experiment seems to prove how much difference a top lens makes.
I'll keep playing and learning using both cameras.
Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
This tiny little fella caught my eye as he/she flew past. Very striking colouring and only about the size of a match head.
