Misc Nature Photo's Thread
First topic message reminder :
Since yesterdays off topic hijacking of re-cycled's ride thread, Gus and I have been challenging each other via PM to post our best nature photo.
I'm sure he wont mind if anyone else joins in. There's some good snappers amongst us.
No prizes. Just share your best work.
Rules;
I think we'll limit it to one pic each per day
Anything to do with nature.
No photoshopping except for basic adjustments.
If you're a professional you should declare it in the post.
Max 1000 pixels wide.
Description optional.
Here's the big G's effort today. Taken at home today.
Here's mine. Taken at Walhalla last year
Come on, join in

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
OK question!
I have a set of ponds I built and there's a Lilly that's so white it stuffs up all my shots and I've tried all sorts of stuff to fix it! ANY IDEAS? as this thing is so majic to look at but so hard to film!

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
It's a bit hard without knowing which camera you have, or more specifically it's capabilities. On mine (Canon S3is) I could set a spot metering mode, set camera with that spot on the lilly, then hold the shutter half-down and recompose and take the picture, or use the exposure bracketing mode where it takes 3 shots one normal, one "over" exposed and one "under" exposed OR failing that try the manual mode and experiment until I get what I want. I hope this gives you some ideas.
Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Peter has some good advice. It is a white balance issue. Another option is different filters. UV, ploarising even different colours. Have you tried different times of the day?Big Al wrote:OK question!

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
Sorry I've got a Panasonic fz18, It will have to do for now although Its done a reasonable job and has some good features.
As to the Lilly, it puts itself to bed each night and rises up again the next day, so shooting at different times is hard if you want it fully open.
I have many good shots of it but never quite right, might give the filter a go!
Thanks for the advice!

Re: Misc Nature Photo's Thread
If this is the camera you have FZ18 there are heaps of settings to play with.
Start with spot metering and white Balance at Daylight and you could even try the scene mode set to Beach.
It looks like a capable camera.

Nice Peter. I'm getting left behind.
I'm serious enough about this thread that I'm eyeing off a Nikon D90
