Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Howdy SB1250
Yes, us "nice" riders can achieve 24,000Km from these tyres. I reckon they are an excellent choice.
The only time I was disappointed was with 12,000Km riding two up with PR2 (on my 06 Bandit).
I didn't know at the time but you can get "B" model variant which Michelin recommend for two up riding.
Anyway, just to confuse things further, here are prices from Jake Wilson for the 180/55-17.
PR2 $152
PR2 B $156
PR3 $162
PR3 B $172
PR4 $181
PR4 GT $188
Not a huge price difference if you are going to get 24,000Km from a tyre.

Can't fault them so far. About 3500 km and still nice round profile. Great turn in. I gave them a bit of curry around some bends on the weekend. No probs. Did a tad over 800 km of flat straight road (Hume hwy) to pick up Bandit II and expected a bit of a flat spot, but nice round profile persists.
Michelin Pilot Powers square off super quick in comparison.

Had a bit of a slip in the wet before Easter on the front. Pr3 is worn flat on the right side only. Going back to a Pr2 again next.

I'm putting P4 GTs on my FA in the next week or so, leading up to a trip to Cairns!! I've got 11.5 out of the original Bridgestones - can't complain considering a lot don't get more than 6 out of them. Laurie

That's why I use bridge stone over Michelin these days. One high speed slide with a pillion was enough for me to not use pilot road anymore.Kaupy1962 wrote:Had a bit of a slip in the wet before Easter on the front. Pr3 is worn flat on the right side only. Going back to a Pr2 again next.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Have just been quoted $300 plus fitting for a rear PR4 from 2 local stealers.
Big increase from the $400 I paid 16 months ago for both front and rear.
ebay doesn't look any better

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Dynoverks is good value for PR4's, plus the lead guy takes the bike out around the block to make sure brakes / etc are all good before you take home.
Get them to make sure your valve stem is OK, I had to take my bike back because the front stem seal started leaking. They replaced for free.

Pirelli Angel GT with A spec rear
Ordered a set from JW on Tuesday night and they arrived on Monday morning. $345 AUD . Too early yet to comment on performance, but as with all new tyres the bike turns much more easily. Someone mentioned before about the brake feeling different after refitting the front wheel. Mine did too. Lever travels a lot less to apply brake (feels good). Hope to get somewhere the claimed mileage from them and the grip. Time will tell.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Motorrad declares Pirelli Angel GT the best sport touring tyre
The latest arrival dedicated to two-wheelers in the Italian tyre manufacturer’s family, already certified as the highest mileage tyre in its segment, wins the sport touring comparative review conducted by the German magazine
\The new Angel GT, a tyre that Pirelli introduced onto the market in April and which was the star of a unique press launch on the flight deck of the Italian Navy’s Aircraft Carrier Cavour, was voted the best sport touring tyre by Motorrad magazine.
The 12/2013 edition of the German magazine compared the new Pirelli Angel GT to Metzeler Roadtec Z/8 Interact M/O, Bridgestone T30, Continental Road Attack 2, Dunlop Roadsmart 2 and Michelin Pilot Road 3 . All of the tyres, (120/70 ZR17 for the front and 180/55 ZR17 for the rear), were mounted on six Suzuki Bandit 1250 S bikes.
The Motorrad staff took into consideration evaluation parameters such as handling, steering precision, stability in turns, stability in turns with sport riding, grip in leans, traction in acceleration, stability in a straight line, performance at maximum conditions and maintaining the line while braking in turns.
Here is the final result of the comparison, which places Angel GT at the top of the list followed by Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact tied with Bridgestone T30 and all the other tyres which were part of the test in fourth place:
1. Pirelli Angel GT
2. Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact
2. Bridgestone T30
4. Continental Road Attack 2
4. Dunlop Roadsmart 2
4. Michelin Pilot Road 3
The Angel GT was declared the winner thanks to its top notch performance on wet roads combined with the sport characteristics which have always been a trait of the brand with the long P. In fact, the new Angel GT is the crowning jewel of the Pirelli sport touring range and the natural descendant of Angel ST, a tyre with multiple victories under its belt in comparison tests conducted by the most prestigious international motorcycling magazines, as well as holder of 7 duration world records. Compared to its predecessor, Angel GT increases mileage by 30%, reduces the braking distance by about 1 metre (at a speed of 75 kph), also improving grip and handling in the wet, and, even more importantly, manages to maintain these characteristics at a high level over time. Pirelli sums up this final characteristic with the formula “Performance Mileage”.
After being certified as the number one sport touring tyre for mileage by the prestigious independent agency, Motorrad TestCenter, and after the excellent reviews published in the sector’s most authoritative international magazines, the result of this comparative review is further confirmation of the appreciation for Pirelli’s work, once again demonstrating their ability to launch products on the market that are capable of giving the consumer an edge over the competition.

Considering that angel GT's have been out for nearly 12 months and PR4s have just been released its not surprisingspanna wrote:Funny that the comparison is with RP3 not newer RP4 which has better spec's
Plus specs are just spec, when was the last time you actually got the fuel consumption in your car that was actually what the sticker said
And i find michellin overrated and over priced i actually would like to hear bosco's take on the cheap and cheerful chinese tyres there running
Cheers Jim

I take it that this means you have the GT on now, and only done 1000ks so far. Not 1000 for the life of it ?
