Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Hi Chris. It's a Spanish tyre. I buy them from MotorcycleTyreWarehouse in Sydney.

The average speed of every ride is way higher now due to my rural commute but surely that's what the tyre was made for?
Anyway a PR3 is going on today. 12,860km out of the PR2. A smidge over 75% of the last one! But I'm not game to switch brands.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
It will be interesting to see if you notice any difference between a rear PR2 and a rear PR3 - I doubt it (other than a new one always feel better than an old one!). I reckon the front was noticeable (PR3 vs PR2 that is) - more precise cornering and tracking to a line.

For what it's worth. I have PR3's on the MT and they stick like glue. Had them on the 1250 also. They are a good hoop.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I picked up the bike with a new PR3 hoop on the back. Paid $265 for it and a bit more for a service (not by the book) so im pretty happy with the price. They did charge $56 for oil though I guess thats normal for something with a motorbike on the container

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I got a quote from one of the larger bike shops (Ringwood) who deal in tyres, and PR3's were 299/180 + 25/tyre fitting. Chris, With your questions re the PR2's country of manufacture got me curious. I checked my PR3's (Jake Wilson), and both are made in Thailand. So far these have done 24500kms, and the front is knackered, but the rear has still got another 5k. Anyone with Spanish PR3's?
Oh, and your $56 for oil.......BikeBiz sell motul 5100 for 55 for 4l. So not bad from a dealer I suppose. Last service I had was the Bandits first one......and was "complimentary"!! The above dealer also quoted $100 to balance the throttle bodies.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Yes mate, 24000kms. I'm wrapped to say the least. The front was at the indicators around 22k, but the rear has just under 2mm left. 95% was fwy commute. I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the front.
I'm gunna get the same again.......I love these PR3's!

Can't see any sign of scalloping - your rear shock must be set right.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Set right??? Just as the factory threw it together!! I check the pressures every 4 or so weeks, and fairly smooth on the throttle.
I've noticed a faint line appeared just off centre early in the tyres life. Looks like something had been resting on the tyre. Maybe it's the joint line between the compounds? Hasn't seemed to affect its life huh!!

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Just back from a day out down to the Mallacoota pub for lunch with some boys and girls from the Far South Coast Riders Group. PR3s have now done 15,500kms and the rear certainly won't make it to Drake and back - so replacement coming up next week. Can't complain - I had a lot of fun on this one!

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I've got less than that left on my PR3 rear and its only done about 12000km, the first 3000 km was 2up with plenty of luggage, other than that it's done a bit of 2 up, fair bit of city and maybe 4000 country, not complaining though, best I've ever done on any bike was 10000km regularly on my old VX800 and even though I stretched the original Dunlop to about 5600 it was pretty shot after 50002wheelsagain wrote:Farrrrk I rode the 75km home and I reckon mine looks like that!sb1250 wrote:My rear PR3 - 24000kms

Just had a look... turns out that tyre has actually gotten me over 20 000... not quite the 24 000 and has definitely past the time to be replaced but that is pretty good in my opinion...

Re: Tyres: Feedback
The last few thousand were interesting. The front had a lot of tram lining and white lines got slippery. I've kept the old rear as a spare, I reckon it's got about 3k left on it. So, after 26402kms I've got a new set of PR3's.
I can highly recommend these tyres.
Anyone put the new PR4's on yet?
