Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Done about 6000 ks on my PR3's now... I like them! The guy that I bought them off wanted some feedback as he thought that on the highway the serrated type grooves in the front tyre might be noisy - but if they are I can't hear them over the noise of the wind, exhaust and my girlfriends screams over the intercom wanting me to slow down!!
are you sure they`re not squeals of delight coming from the pillion seat Bhoffo?

pirelli diablo rosso 2
G'day everyone.
For those that have fitted Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 tyres, what pressures do you run in them & what are your thoughts on the tyres?
I've just fitted one to the rear but haven't been out on it yet.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Well, Im about to get the OEM Dunlops replaced after having travelled 8700kms (mostly highway commute). There's still a bit of tread left before the wear indicators, but Im up for a long ride this weekend so I dont want to risk it (I think there is about 1000kms left on them). I cant say that I'd be sad to see the originals get replaced. Good grip, but bad wear.
Jake Wilson delivered a set of Dunlop Q2's within 5 days of ordering online - unreal service!! Ive run the Q2's on my last steed, so Im not unfamiliar with them - Oh, and the price was great! Pity about them unable to send PR3's, and Pirelli Angel ST's. .....I would like to have tried these.
Anyway - I will keep you all posted as to how the Q2's behave under the Bandit.

Mate thats much more wear than I recall anyone of us getting so well done.
Like you I liked the way they gripped wet and dry but I think it depends on the roads we ride on how well they worked.
What wear are you expecting from the Q2's?
Re: Tyres: Feedback
The ol Dunlops didnt like those shiny glue strips thats for sure!!
Im hoping to get mid to high teens out of the Q2's.
I did get 16k (rear)out of a Qualifier on the Gixxer .........so maybe I should expect high 20's out of the Q2's on the Bandit???

have JW stopped Michelins again?
i had a set of pr3's delivered literally over the weekend from them in December (ordered Friday, delivered Monday!). so far I find them brilliant.
As for the OEM's - 4,000 is all I squeezed out of them. The PR2 front got replaced 17,000km later.
Re: Tyres: Feedback
I didnt actually add the PR3's to my cart due to other Bandit members experiences with JW last year - but I did have the Pirelli Angel ST's in the cart (along with the Q2's), until a warning came up about unauthorised goods not being able to be shipped to Oz. So I ended up with the Q2's only.
Q2's getting fitted up today (hopefully) ready for a 3 day ride thru the high country!! The mechanic who will be fitting the tyres did ask if the tyres were from the USA. Then gave them a good look over for damage, ......and codes He still seemed ok with fitting them up, but wanted to mention that the codes on the USA tyres are different to the Oz tyre codes, and therefore they were a different tyre

Pilot Road 3
Hi guys,
I have been using Pilot Road 2 for the 2 last sets and been very happy with them, good wear approx.8-9K for the back and more for the front tyre... Just fitted a new PR3 to the back and if what they say is true, it should perform even better especially in the wet.
Would definately recommend the PR2s and will post feedback on PR3s soon as I get a good go with them.
Cheers!

That's flat enough across the middle to render the side stand useless ........almost.
They must have been a handful going up Hotham the other day. You'll love the new set whatever they are mate.
Re: Tyres: Feedback

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Thats the thing about Pr2's .If the wear markers were in the middle you would be past them .If the markers were closer to the edge the wire
would be showing in the middle and the markers would be saying "still good ". Ask yourself "is this bike getting hard to turn"

Re: Tyres: Feedback
They do have wear markers or limit blocks in toward the middle. There no easy to see though. There's actually about 3mm till I hit the limits in the centre. So much waste on the sides though. [img][/img]

Go Jake Wilson!!
Last week I started looking for another Metzler Z8 for the rear. Talked to a friend at a local bike shop to see about price. He said if I really wanted a Metzler he would get one in for me, but they don't stock them any more as they were having too many out of round returns with them. So I settled on a PR3. $318 fitted was the cheapest for a 180/55 in Canberra.
I'd read before that Jake Wilson wouldn't ship Michelin to Oz, but thought I'd try it anyway. Tuesday morning I ordered it. No Problem. Just getting on the bike this morning at ten to seven, the courier arrived with the tyre. $216 delivered. Woo Hoo!

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I'm in love with the Power Pure's on the FZ.
Grip to the edge without any front push that PR2's produce.
I know they wont last as long

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Just a quick update on the Dunlop Sportmax Q2 that replaced the OEM lumps of shyt.
Bloody great! A good tyre that feels comfortable and no misbehaving on those black shiny wiggly lines things.
So, after 4000kms, they look really good - but I cant predict how many kms to expect out of them just yet.
