Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Had some new tyres fitted yesterday. PR4's that where on it when I bought the bike where at the wear indicators front and rear.
After much research and internal debate I remembered that I was most likely a rubbish rider and agonising of the decision was probably the equivalent of wondering if new runners would help me take on Usain Bolt in the 100m
In the end I went with some Metzeler Roadtec 01s, they seemed to get decent reviews, hopefully decent mileage, and they seem suited to the wet weather commuting. Plus they used Bandit's at the official launch. https://www.cycleworld.com/metzeler-roadtec-01-motorcycle-tire-review-first-ride#page-6
Spent an hour or so yesterday in addition to the usual commute getting some heat into them and so far they feel good. The PR4's they replaced must have been fairly squared off as the change in handling was very noticeable. Will be heading out tomorrow morning for the local loop and will see how they fair.

I'd be interested in your feedback, I'm due for a new set & was looking at the new Michelin Road 5. Reviews on them have been good & the price I was quoted is good as well, $553 fitted & balanced. Haven't ordered them yet as I'm waiting for some 90 degree valve stems to turn up 1st.

I'm in Briz, and I literally got a quote today for $490, and Angel GT's for $485.
I then went to a wholesaler, and I can get the Angel's for $385.
I'd say shop around.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I've been quote $500 fitted for the Angel GT's & I have heard good things about them, I do like the Michelins I've had previously that's why I'm leaning towards them. A multi brand bike dealer in Newcastle wants $665 for the Road 5's fitted, yet a small workshop in Port Stephens can beat that price by over $100,some places just rip people off & then whinge about not supporting them, I wonder why Still shopping around, I might have to have a look at the wholesaler & see what I can get.mtbeerwah wrote:Andywill wrote:I'd be interested in your feedback, I'm due for a new set & was looking at the new Michelin Road 5. Re: Tyres: Feedback
It might pay to be upfront with them all, and see if they'll start to price match, who ever you decide to go with.
$665....they can stick that where the sun don't shine.
I wouldn't pay over $500 for the 5's.
I've never done the Angels, so I'm giving them ago.
A mate of mine just put a new 5 on the front. ...he's happy with it. The critics rave about their wet ability, but I don't really care too much about that. If it's wet, I'm as upright as possible. Doesn't matter how good a tyre is supposed to be in the wet....add some hidden oil or unknown slippery element, and the best wet weather tyre become redundant.
I prefer to focus on dry weather ability, and some kind of duration of life, when it comes to sport/touring tyres, as they are the do all of tyres.
My other bikes, I've got hyper sport tyres, as that's what I want for them.
I don't think anyone can go too wrong with all the competition these days. Their almost on par with each other.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Just put some Metzeler Roadtec 01's on.
Was going to do the Angels, but after reading a bit more, decided against them.
I've just done 700k's on the new shoes, and liking them allot.
They feel like they've got a soft carcass, compared to the hyper sport tyres on my other bikes, but once I got used to their feel, they're very confidence inspiring.
$465 fitted, so happy with that too.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Hey Mt, I'm looking for a new set of tyres now and have narrowed the choice down ot either Pirelli Angel GT or Metzeler Roadtect 01's. I've been running Michelin Road 2's and while they perform well the mileage could be a lot better. How are the Metzeler's going, are you still happy with them?mtbeerwah wrote:Just put some Metzeler Roadtec 01's on.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I've only put 1000k's on them all up.
Had them on my bike and did about 800k's before I took them off.
I've been saving these wheels and tyres for the GP ride, so have only yesterday swapped them back over.
I've been using Hypersport tyres for the last 4yrs, so any sport touring tyre, has a different attitude.
As a sport touring tyre, so far, they feel good.
They take a bit of getting used to. They sort of feel a little...squishy...compared to other other sport touring tyres I've had in the past, but I got used to their characteristic within 100k's.
You can use full tyre and peg out when you understand them.
Will be doing about 6500k's in two weeks, so I'll tell you when I get back in two and half weeks my total thoughts.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Ok, just got back from Phillip Island.
Did a 5200km round trip. Fairly happy with the Metzeler Roadtec 01's.
They've got a slight flat spot on the rear centre, front is good.
Couldn't avoid some of the hi-ways. Bike was loaded with about 50-60kg luggage. Tank bag was full of tools, which keeps the mass central. Started with 38F-42R PSI, then went 37F-41R PSI.
They felt confident the whole time.
They started with 1000km's before I left, and now have 6200km's on them. Still have plenty meat left, but I'll see how the second half wears.

Michelin Pilot 4's
Can't believe I have 18,000k on a set of Pilot 4's. I did run them at 40psi in the front and 42 in the rear. Just about to renew them.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
In late February this year threw a set of Michelin Road 5 GT's on. Was travelling with panniers & topbox full & towing trailer with tent & all the gear. So far 13000 kms on them including a 1100km trip last weekend, 300 in pissing down rain at +15 to +30. Set front & rear suspension really soft and it stuck to the road like glue.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
UPDATE:
I put these tyres on the Bandit 11/3/22. At that time I planned to be loaded up & also towing a trailer for 3 months or so.
Now 5/3/23 they are finished. I didn't record speedo when they went but by adding the destination kms : wagga, bendigo, canberra, dunedoo, killarney qld & difference between todays speedo reading (80250)& first service after tyres went on((61860) I have a total of 21, 500km.( I know I've missed about another 2k km in trips prior to that first service while down at Bendigo for 10 days)
Looks like another set going on as I'm heading off loaded up & towing again in a few weeks.
Tyre pressures usually around F 38 -40 R 36-38.

Replaced the GT5 with GT6 on 23/3. 5300km on them post trip. Combo of panniers & towing, then out in the dirt roads on National Parks, (power slides 2nd,3rd,4th good fun), up & down twisty fun on QLD mountain roads & the odd low flying run.
38 F&R , so far all good.
