Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
First topic message reminder :
Who's planning on doing the WSBK's in February, and who is interested in getting a house on the island?
There are plenty of options but we'd need to know who wants to join in to get a idea of what size place we'd need?
Going
Hammy + Mate
Ewok & Bev
madmax
Chook
reddog and Mrs reddog
Barry & Axle

my thoughts exactlyEwok1958 wrote:That's it Chook. These houses often have a BBQ so throwing a few snags and steaks on with some ready made salads from the supermarket sorts dinner. Or to put that another way, gives us more $$ for beer and wine! No need to spend a fortune just because we're on the road.

Lets do a "I'm going" list like we did for Parkes, so that we save time when the dates are confirmed. I'm in. My thoughts would be to get a house ( if we have the right number ) for the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. But I'm willing to go with the flow.
We'd want to be in the house Thursday to be ready for Friday at the track
I'm thinking 4 nights, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, leave on Monday

I reckon I'll leave Adelaide Tuesday, Warrnambool that night, stay either side of the ferry on Wednesday night (or somewhere in Melbourne depending which way I go) and have a easy ride to the island on the Thursday

Stay at my place Wednesday night if that suits you?

4 nights sounds good to me. I'm planning on taking two weeks off, and being away for most of it. We might see who is the best BBQest.

There seems to be 4 of us that are definites (Hammy, me, MM & Chook). Maybe put the committed starters at the beginning of the thread or start a new thread.
A question: given the 4 night option, are you guys planning to buy the 3-day track pass? A few of us did that the first year we went down but decided it wasn't really worth doing it again. We didn't go to the track all day over the 3 days - we skipped most of the practice sessions (went sight-seeing) but went to the track for historics and qualifying.

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
A few things I've found when surfing around AIRBnB for houses:
1. Many (the vast majority) do not have lock up garages, but there are exceptions
2. Most ask that you bring your own linen (and some inspect the place after you arrive to make sure you are using your linen with their doonas. Some will supply linen at extra cost.
3. Most want a bond, refundable after they do a post-checkout inspection.
Just have to work with that.
Here's one worth a look (one of the few in the heart of Cowes with garage).
https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/4503538?checkin=25-02-2016&checkout=29-02-2016&guests=4&s=I_AC
Go to the bottom and you'll see the difference between WSBK and MotoGP, ie
Superbikes - $900 flat rate, stay up to 3 nights, includes linen & towels
MotoGP - $2,250 flat rate, includes linen and towels, OR pay $2,500 and stay up to 7 nights
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's a second modern townhouse in Cowes with garage & BBQ:

Good work Dave. That last one is nice, and at $200 a day, that's only 50 each a day if it was only the four of us. It will sleep 8. You pay $50 for a tiny hotel bedroom. I like the idea of a garage. I personally would pay an extra 20-30 $ a day to have something that is nice. I we had to bring linen, I would go up to Coles and buy some instead of carting it. Even a new pillow. Then just leave it.

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
I was thinking I'd do the same, cheap pillow and either cheap sheets or sleeping bag. $50 a night is a bargain, I've got a couple of mates that might be interested in coming as well (one's on a Monster the other either a Massey Ferguson or 650 V-Strom)Hammy wrote: I we had to bring linen, I would go up to Coles and buy some instead of carting it. This is the one from the Grampians thread
Unit in Smiths beach PI, can walk to circuit, sleeps up to 14. Price for 4 nights from the 25 Feb (thursday night) is $1553
Worth considering if the number of attendees get larger

This one's $1073 also in Smiths beach

Definitely a good idea to get one with 2 bathrooms if their is going to be a few of us. We need to set a cut off date for numbers. Then look for the right place.
Max. The first one comes with it's own penguins.

Take that one if it has a barbie - they're really easy to pluck.

Just throwing it out there... I spoke to my wife about this tonight and she said how about taking her and my 6 year old son. If we flew over would you mob want kids around? Just a thought ATM as we are off to Japan on a holiday in October and will be watching the motoGP from Motegi

Doesn't worry me, but you do realise that this is just as much a full on piss up as well as seeing the race.

We could always go down to the penguin parade one night and pick up some takeaway

I was thinking the same thing, my (then 17yo) daughter who is very used to being with pissed adults wont be making this trip, although she might fly to Melbourne to go to the Grampians meet with me.madmax wrote:reddog wrote:Just throwing it out there... I asked the owner in a restaurant where Dave and I were having dinner "what do they taste like ? " . Bit of a startled response.
On the subject of kids. No probs with me. But they have to know that they have to earn their keep. Back and forward to the fridge.
If the parents are not to keen about letting their children witness Max and Daves drunkiness, then maybe it would be safer to get a motel. As I have said. They are pretty reasonable for that time of year. Up to you.
