Grampians Meet, 4-5-6 march 2016 (cancelled until further notice)

First topic message reminder :

Whilst we were in Parkes there was some discussion around "the next one". The Grampians was mention as a possible area.

Happy to start the ball rolling and get the discussion happening

This year (after winter) or next year??

I'll need to have enough room in 1 pannier for Kaylah's clothes and most likely have to carry her jacket, boots and helmet 1/2 way around Australia on the way, that'll just leave the other pannier for me.

Hammy and I stayed at the Coachman Motel for a couple of nights (Sat & Sun). It was very convenient to town (ie 5 minutes walking distance). Give them a ring for a price. WSBK isn't like MotoGP, ie you can get good accommodation 3 months out at a reasonable price. Downside, the coffee shops don't open early! I'd stay there again.

I've just been looking at Phillip Island Accommodation, some of them have WSB as 17/02/2016 - 22/02/2016

I was just looking at a houses on the Island, 5 nights (in Wed 17th, out Mon 22nd), as Ewok said, it looks like there is plenty of cheap options, especially if you don't mind sharing a house

I wasn't sure on the dates, just going on with Dave's comment about it usually being the last weekend in Feb.

As I was down at Phillip island today It reminded me of this thread.

I stayed at Smiths Beach a few years ago with a couple of mates. Great accommodation - even had a copy of Easy Rider in the DVD cabinet! And a fish a chip shop within 300m. Probably too far to walk to the track so we decided to ride the 2ks or so.

a bloke from work who's a regullar at the WSB and GP's reckons you can pay a lot less at the WSB and book good accommodation a lot later than the GP, maybe the price is right

I hope it is right.
Just looking around on that site at other less appealing places in Smiths beach suggest the price should be $1200 - $2000 for the same dates.
I'm thinking we need to get the ball rolling very soon to get this confirmed and booked

There's plenty of options for around the $200 per person for 5 nights, $40 a night for a bed, shower and somewhere to park the bike is a bargain

It's both, have the National Meet the week after the WSBK so anyone who wants to do both doesn't have to either chose or make 2 trips. The attraction of 2 events on consecutive weekends could also make it more attractive for those travelling from further away.

If finances allow it I'm hoping to do both, been sussing out some areas I'd like to ride in to fill the wee up in between, atm I'm thinking leaving Adelaide Monday or Tuesday before WSBK's

Adelaide to Warrnambool and get a cheap pub room
Possibly a extra night somewhere else, cheap pub room if I do
Warrnambool to Philip Island (get there Wednesday)
Thurs-Sun WSBK
Monday-Thursday or Friday go for a ride up the coast, perhaps do some of the Alpine Roads, meet up with a few forumites if they've got time, stay in cheap pub rooms or backpacker style accom.
Friday meet Kaylah @ Tullamarine Airport, ride to Grampians
Fri and Sat night National Meet
Sunday ride home to Adelaide with Kaylah and anyone else from SA attending

I think we're flogging a dead horse with this one madmax. If anyone wants to catch up for a night there I'm all up for a overnight stay somewhere there on the way home the weekend after the Superbikes.

I'll put it out there again. Why not call the WSBK weekend, the annual meet as well ? A few others might want to make the ride just for a day or two. Any thoughts ??

Hammy, how quickly (days not speed) are you planning on heading North, can you do a night or 2 in the Alpine region with us?

Just reading through the pages of this thread. The first four pages there was a lot of interest, then it just fell off with barely anyone committing. Disappointing as the Grampians would be a great weekend.
