Grampians Meet, 4-5-6 march 2016 (cancelled until further notice)
Whilst we were in Parkes there was some discussion around "the next one". The Grampians was mention as a possible area.
Happy to start the ball rolling and get the discussion happening
This year (after winter) or next year??
Other locations??
Who's Going

Adds up to 1164Km. My turn to put in the hard yards I guess.

I know you were thinking Mudgee, personally, being as Mudgee is fairly close to Parkes I would suggest that as the following one, and go somewhere completely different for the next one.
Chook suggested the Grampians, I happy to go with that if we get sufficient numbers to make it an event. As the Victorians on the site have shown a lacklustre response to these events I thought a thread to start a discussion on ideas would be a good idea.
Time, sometime late spring 2015 or Feb-March next year

Re: Grampians Meet, 4-5-6 march 2016 (cancelled until further notice)
I thought the timing on this Parkes one was good so I'd support a March 2016 event.
An essential thing is that the location offers us something to do on the Saturday. It could be a short ride or a place to visit, eg a museum. The people who've had a long ride to get to the meet probably don't want a long days riding on the Saturday, 50 - 100 kms is probably enough.
I haven't been to the Grampians so that would suit me. I'd also throw in Traralgon - it has Australia's largest open cut coal mine and the old mining town of Walhalla on its doorstep. There are some great roads to be had getting there if you don't want to follow the highways.

My tally for Parkes was 1,202km return, so I'm happy to travel further afield, I'd be prepared to travel even further West if it meant the WA riders could join us.
Re: Grampians Meet, 4-5-6 march 2016 (cancelled until further notice)
Hmmm, about 3200klms return, I googled my place to Grampians Motel. Would that be about right Max?
How did you manage to tally up 1202klms Re-C? I tallied up 1197 odd klms

I wouldn't be going direct to the Grampians anyway when a fun route can be had.
This is how, plus some miscellaneous and maybe a bit of speedo error. https://goo.gl/maps/H6d0K

We'll worry about accommodation once we set time and place. For now just work out to Grampians National park

If it helps with Googling, Hall's Gap is the only town in the Grampians.

The Gramps would be great. I could pull some strings
This time of year is shit for me but any other its either stinking hot, freezing cold or blowing a gale or all 3 in the Gramps!
Theres some good riding not far away and the Gramps itself is worth a closer look.

The Grampians sound good .............some of the accommodation can be a bit pricey though...............I suppose it would need confirmation from RD & co as to how far they were willing to travel to accommodate them.Re-Cycled wrote:Craig67 wrote:Adds up to 1164Km. Other options to stay could also be Dunkeld or Hamilton just off of the Southern Grampians, they are also only a stones throw from the Great Ocean Rd#Tag wrote:If it helps with Googling, Hall's Gap is the only town in the Grampians.

I'm so glad you didn't mention Horsham.
I don't know why, but I struggle to find anything good to say about it.

add the 120 km running around on Saturday and that's the same that Kaylah and I did this week, easy 2 day ride each way, plenty of cheap pub rooms on the wayCraig67 wrote:That's one way 2328 returnRe-Cycled wrote:Craig67 wrote:Adds up to 1164Km. My turn to put in the hard yards I guess.

I had a bit of a look at Ararat and Halls Gap, Halls Gap seems pretty pricey
Re: Grampians Meet, 4-5-6 march 2016 (cancelled until further notice)
Something to think about.
Can some thought be given to organising the next meet around some other event ? I would be very keen to go to the Melb' F1 GP. So if the meet was the weekend before or after, then that would be great. Maybe a couple of other rev heads would be interested and we can plan it together. It is a long way to ride, just to meet up with some folks and then turn around and go home. But, as has been stated before. The fun is in the journey.

Great idea, if I could arrange the leave I'd be happy to stay over and do the F1 or another eventHammy wrote:Something to think about.
