HID Installation
Hello all.
I have head great experience in cars doing HID retro-fitting (proper alignment fitting, not blinding bastardised installs), but this is my first attempt and thought of retro-fitting a HID kit into a bike.
It was a toss between 7200lm LED or a H7 HID PnP kit, went the HID for costs, and because LED is still somewhat in infancy.
Anyway, I was thinking of removing the headlight assembly, completely removing the scatter-lens from the unit, and fitting in a H7 or D2S HID lens into the assembly to give the best projection of clean light with a distinct light cut-off.
Then I had the realisation that bikes done sit horizontal all their life like cars do.
Has anyone else gone down the path of a HID installation on their bike? if so, what steps did you do, or what changes to the light assembly did you make?
Cheers.

Including meeting the self levelling and self cleaning requirements?turbo_brian wrote:Hello all.

Re: HID Installation
Chook,
YES, including the self leveling and cleaning ADR requirements.
the vehicle in questions in question had "optional" HID, but the actual vehicle was not factory fitted, so I used OEM gear.
Now on a bike, I dont have that luxury, but trying to see what I can match up with to meet majority of the ADR requirements, but more importantly, to not blind of bother other motorists.
If someone has done this, awesome, otherwise I guess it will be a first.....

Re: HID Installation
I know Barry is looking into doing something with HIDs and projector lens in a spare headlight

Re: HID Installation
Thought I'd have my dual Bi-Xenon projectors fitted and ready for the Parkes trip, got everything pulled apart to do the alignment last week and realised that I cocked up the bulb to ballast wiring .
I wanted to keep the wiring and components I had already installed with the DDM PnP HID setup and just change the H7 HID bulbs to the new TRS 2.5" Mini Projectors. Hassle being the projectors take D2S bulbs whilst the DDM H7s are connected using AMP plugs. No one down here in Tassie even knows how to spell HID let alone carries a set of AMP-to-D2S adaptor cables .
So whilst we're up galavanting round NSW, the Mr Google and the postie will be busy delivering my missing parts, so I should be ready for this coming winter .

So Barry when will you offer a changeover service ? Stock reflectors with hids are just reasonable.

You'll have to let us know how it goes when you tip into corners

Re: HID Installation
I think if I'm "tipping" into a corner I'm going to need a lot more than white headlights to help, more than likely they'll be blue and red flashing ones

Re: HID Installation
Barry, NICE work!!! those projectors look awesome.
Do you still retain adjustments via the stock screws?
Very interested in any other pics and information you have from this work, looks awesome!

Re: HID Installation
I think I put some info in a HID thread a while back, might see if I can find it and add some more photos and info.
Yes, the stock adjustment screws still work, that was one of the main design feratures I wanting to retain. I need to do final fitment alignment of the projectors to get them in a position on the new base plate so the stock adjusters have enough movement to take account of normal changes.
I was hoping my bulb adaptors cables would be here when I got back from traveling the country side, hopefully they're at our PO box in town.

Re: HID Installation
Finally, they're in, and working.....
Wired up so I can have either the top projector by itself or both. The projector solenoid arrangement means the bulbs don't have to switch on/off when going from high to low (or visa versa).
The alignment I did prior to installation inside the headlight assembly was pretty spot on (pardon the pun), only needed minor tweaking of the original Bandit adjustors once installed.
Not the best picture as it was taken in the middle of the day and only 3 meters from the bike. I love the cutoff line projectors give, should make traffic coming towards me a little happier.
