Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
After being an avid Arai devote for most of my riding life, I have had cause to make a change. I bought Jan a Shark lid a while ago, and was impressed by the quality and overall condition of the helmet. I came across a real bargain for a Vision R GT Carbon that I just could not pass by. It has the flip down sun shield. As has been stated on this sight. The sun shield is just a bit too light with the standard clear visor on. So.... I got myself a silver mirror replacement outer visor. With that and the flip down it is absolutely perfect on a sunny day. With the sun shield flipped up it is still excellent viewing and the optics are great. No warp lines or distortion. I recommend this upgrade for anyone with a Shark lid with the flip down sunnies. They are not cheap however. Cost about $87. But well worth it. Oh, and the rest of the helmet. Love it. Very quiet and really comfortable.

I think that would be similar. My visor is the VZ-120. So simple to change. Just open 1/2 way and pull. Watch out. I'll turn all techno next and get the Sharktooth thingy.madmax wrote:would that be this one Hammy?

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
I like the flip visor on the vision R, I'm happy with the tint. I don't know if I've posted this before, but the only problem was riding into the sun, in the afternoon, I couldn't block the sun with the helmet like I could with my old one, so I put black insulating tape across the top of the sun visor so that when I look through it, it blocks every thing above the top line of my glasses. Now I can tilt my head down and block the direct sun in the afternoon, of course this may only be a problem on the vision R because of the bigger aperture.

I seem to have a HJC head ( I find the shark one not as comfortable ,) & one of my helmets have the flip down visor .......quite handy , but if I was to be perfectly honest , my ordinary HJC is more comfortable .

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
I looked at a new HJC IS-16 a couple of weeks ago. Its got the flip down sun shield but I was wondering how much noise the mechanism generated?
The idea is good and I cant get a Shark on my head plus I reckon they're over priced for the reliability and service I've had over the years from HJC.
So how much noise does the lever on top make?

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
The noise is comparable to the normal one , the only thing I found was because of the mechanism , the helmet seems to sit on top of your head.............feels a bit like someone has put a saucer in the top of your helmet ..............not uncomfortable , but the normal one is better

My Shark has the operating lever on the L/H side. It also has a nifty little lever to open the visor just a fraction and keep it there.

And it's a much smaller lever. I like that mechanism better

I do remember Mike telling me the shark mechanism is better. The HJC one feels cheap and clunky

My mate Johns Shark, has the lever on the top. That seems a little silly to me. His is the flip face model. Ugly. Suits him. He don't read our site.

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
My head must be the wrong shape for my vision R carbon cos I find it the noisiest helmet I've owned. It's comfortable and the vision is great, but now our wet season has begun in the North, the next surprise has been the amount of rain it lets in around the top seal of the visor when riding in torrential downpours. My old Shark RSI didn't have the same sorts of issues, and it certainly kept the rain out well for the years I had it as did the HJC I had before that. I'm thinking that the HJC might be something I'll return to next time.

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
Ive heard from a lot of people that the Shark helmets can be quite noisy, which is putting me off buying one in my local shop that fits me beautifully. I currently have an old HJC that fits nicely but is heavy and noisy. My mate has just bought his 3rd HJC and reckons the quality is getting worse and worse and the newest one is noisier again.
Its a real shame you can't take lids for a test ride as its a substantial amount of money to fork out for something before you know if it works or not.

Re: Shark Helmet Flip down Sun Visor
When I wear my new Shark I only hear this strange sound. Kinda like..... Brrrrr Dom, Brrrrr Dom, Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom, . A lot of the time it is not the helmet , but the fairing that is the problem. Personally I find the Shark very quiet. Some models are probably different. And yes you can take a helmet for a test ride. You just can't put it on your head !
