Shark Vision R Helmet
having bought my Shark Vision R last year i been quite happy with it, a little noisy but its comfort is was what sold me.
[img][/img]
Unfortunately i have been never really happy with the colour but once again comfort has been the over riding factor
things i really like about this Helmet
1. extremely comfortable
2. really good vision
3 flip down sunnies ( i love this feature )
4 Ventilation
5 never really fogged up on me
things i didnt like
1 Colour nicked named by a mate the red skunk
2. a little noisy
3 cost of replacement visors
so after all that it has been replaced due to my accident , what did i buy yep another shark Vision R
[img][/img]
i discovered that whilst its a vision r its a different model my old red & white one is a Becool and the new one is a Reveal, one big thing i noticed was how much quieter the new on is i think it s to do with the diffuser under neath the chin
[img][/img] [img][/img]
as you can see the difference between the two and i was actually staggered how quiet this helmet is i could comfortabley not wear ear plugs on short 1/2 day rides and i have had to turn the scala down 2 steps on the volume.
the built in sun visor is very handy and especially in foggy conditions, you can pop up the visor with the sunnies down and still give you protection and be able to see with out fogging up
over all I am very happy with the shark and recommend it

Nice review Jim. A bloke at work bought a Shark recently and he has noticed increased noise so I am wondering if he got an on-sale older model.

I just bought one of these and I think its great for noise reduction and mine is a black & white one where the white part glows in the dark.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
been reading reviews and it seems the Sharks are giving the established names a run for our money! the Race-R Pro is a minuscule 1250g ! as it's getting on to new lid time for me, I'll give one serious consideration.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
Jim
I also have a Vision R, had one since October last year. Yep I agree they are a little noisy. So maybe I have an older one, thing is I can't see the difference in your two pictures.
Other problems I have is its loosened up heaps since I bought it. Thing is the large was tight and the medium was that tight I couldn't get on. So I bought the large but it now feels too big and it can move around on a ride so I find myself readjusting it all the time.
The built in tinted visor is a great thing, but I feel it needs to be darker and I can't find replacements.
The clear one is stone chip[ed and needs replacing already.
Mine will fog up on a cold day so I often ride around with the visor slightly open, using the little catch thingy on side
The chin vent doesn't seem to close regardless of what position it is in

Shark helmets are pretty good, but noisy. I wear an rsr2 and yes $100 for a new visor is ridiculous, you may as well buy a new helmet when the visor is stuffed.

It has little bit of material that seals up the chin area works very well , and as for the sun visor it would have to be a spare part like new liners

I'm seriously thinking about a Shark for a new helmet. So impressed with the one I bought for Jan. Even though I can't try it on cause my mellons bigger than hers.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
I scored one of these for my birthday. Haven't been on the road with it yet but it's a damn good fit. Love the drop down sunnies and venting system as well as the option of the shark tooth system.

Helmet's fantastic. Not as much noise as the Nolan. The drop down sunnies are brilliant.

Sharks still recommended?
Just wondering if 6 months on every one is still a fan of their shark helmet?
I found a shop here in Townsville that sells them, tried the vision R (approx $450) and am sold on its fit but do have concerns when I compare it to my Shoei with regards to previous mentioned noise concerns.
So - oo are they still the recommended helmet of choice for buyers is my question I guess.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
I've had mine for over 18 months now and the comfort (I think) is still there. I haven't had any quality issues - the vents still work and the sunnies still drop down alright.
I have a scratch on the visor and while it's not in my view, I'm keen to look at a new visor.
All up I'm still happy with it.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
I just brought a Speed R & it's great. I had been using a Shark RSR2 prior.
I had my mind set on either a Shoei XR1100 or a Arai RX Q. (Both of these retail for just under $800). I tried them both & then the dealer suggested to try the new Speed R.
Great fit, light, quiet, room for intercom speakers & glasses & hardly any wind resistance......... I love it....... & it was over $300 cheaper ?

I got a Shark too!
Well I did it, got meself a Shark Vision R.
Rising Sun Motorcycles had a sale so I got the helmet for $380 down from $449, I saved so much I bought a Moto Dry Air Blade type mesh jacket for $200 down from $249. Previously I had a leather jacket and riding in summer in Nth Qld in leather is not always pleasant.
Very happy with my purchases and savings. Might go for a squirt tomorrow and see if the Bandit is any quicker.

Not too sure about the Shark
OK so I have done approx 300 klm so far with the new Shark.
I have noticed the visor will not stay clicked up at the first click if a gust of wind hits me front on at anything more than 80klm/hour. I did notice the looseness in the visor when I bought it but thought it would be able to stay in position at the lower speed. (My old Shoei was about 5-6 yrs old and the clicks were as firm as the day I bought it).
Second issue I am having is the actual openess of the helmet is way too big. Maybe this had to be big to accomodate the drop down sunglasses but seems a LOT of overkill in my opinion and allows a lot of unnecessary light in.
Third issue is when I check my blind spot I am needing to stretch my neck slightly forward to enable me to turn my head and actually see the blind spot and even then it is a bit of a struggle to see. I need to really look to my left or right using my eyes rather than simply turning my head.
Think I'll be going back to Mr/Mrs Shoei next time.

There is a small catch on the left side to hold the visor slightly open

That is the main feature of the Vision R, a bigger view port so you can see more. There are other shark models with a normal view port and a sun visor

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
I tried all the Shark helmets available when I bought a new helmet and found them all to be uncomfortable, I obviously have a different shaped head. I settled on an Arai Vector 2 which is really comfortable but very noisy. Cop a fair bit of buffeting from the wind at speed too. Everthings a compromise I guess.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
Thanks MM.
I think the catch is a hindrance with gloves to operate, and it does not open far enough with the catch to make me want to use it anyway.
The shop I bought the helmet from only had the vision R model that I ended up buying and then there was a $200+ increase to the next model up which is what attracted me to the vision R. Otherwise for the $$ I would have quite happily bought another Shoei.
Other than those few points, comfort, fit, noise level, wind buffetting are excellent for mine.
BoomGT, I tried the Arai models too but they were actually too loose or too tight on my head. plus $$ over what I wanted to spend.

Re: Shark Vision R Helmet
Ok its nearly 12 months since i got my shark vision r helmet what do i think ?
I think its still a bloody good helmut, the padding has loosened of a bit so its noticably more noisey, but its still really comfortable and nothing has broken on it. It never fogs up which is very good and i still love the flip down sunnies
Would i buy another..... Yes i would
