2004 1200S
" />" />Well I haven't really thought about this but seeing as how Im buying the TL the Bandit may just have to go. Ill just put up a couple of pics and a brief description and if anyone on here would like to make an offer or knows someone worthy or just wants to tell me what they think I should be asking that would be great. Cheers Jimmy." />
Well its a 2004 Bandit 1200S Fastidiously looked after only 18600Kms, Delkevic headers with Yoshi Titanium can, LED taillights, Stage 1 jet kit, K&N filter all tuned up buy Brett at MOTOGARAGE Canberra on his Dyno 107bhp on the day but he said that was about 5hp under for some reason or another I can't quite remember. Good Conti Attack Tyres, oil and filter done every 2-3K because Im over the top, Ventura rack, Bagster tank cover, new chain, probably the best example of an '04 model around. Box of spares Ive collected along the way just in case something ever happened ( but it hasn't ) including spare windscreen, headlight and taillight assembly, crash knobs, indicators other bits and bobs. What do you reckon its worth? Im happy to keep it in mothballs if I can't get a reasonable price, its a bloody good bike and I do love it. Cheers Jimmy:)

Just a thought mate & don't take it the wrong way , but why don't you ride the new purchase around a bit before you sell the bandit ..................memories can be a bit clouded sometimes & both bikes are quite a bit different, besides it sounds like you can afford to do it that way & you may end up with both LOL.

Thanks Paul, I know what you mean, thats probably a good idea. However Im sort of bored with the Bandit and Ive got to the stage where its too much trouble to put the jacket and lid on and wheel it out of the shed. Ive lost my mojo and Im trying to get it back. As far as the bikes being quite a bit different, you've hit the nail on the head. The Bandit is the only inline four Ive owned and I just really prefer V Twins. I love the way you actually RIDE a V Twin through the gears with that super punchy engine. It just makes you giggle, and as for sound?? Well.....!!! Im happy to keep the Bandit but I fear it will just collect dust and its too good a bike for that. I had a quiet word to her earlier," Its not you, its me ". I think she understood.paul wrote:Just a thought mate & don't take it the wrong way , but why don't you ride the new purchase around a bit before you sell the bandit ..................memories can be a bit clouded sometimes & both bikes are quite a bit different, besides it sounds like you can afford to do it that way & you may end up with both LOL.

Re: 2004 1200S
When I was looking for an open class bike My mate let me ride both of his a 97 Bandit and a Tl1000S. The TL was slow and turned like a bus. I bought a Bandit. The TL doesn't have a punchy motor. I'd smash a TL In the Twisties. I'd take the advice and ride the TL for a little bit. I'd rather an sv1000 any day of the week but its horses for courses. Good luck with the new bike.

That is a nice example Jimmy. Well kept. Good work. As for price ? People usually go by the guide book. Yours would definately fetch the top end. If you are not in a hurry then you will eventually get what you want for her. I'm sure you will enjoy the TL. They were always an underated motorcycle. Probably cause the VTR came out at the same time and stole all the thunder. Good on Gus to do the leg work for ya. Did he test ride it, and what were his thoughts ?

Re: 2004 1200S
Even Dr T (Taglioni of Ducati V-twin fame) allowed that a large displacement 90 degree V-twin is a bugger of a thing to accommodate in a motorcycle frame. This is especially true with the narrow included valve angles of modern head design. The consequence is that the wheelbase tends to be longer than is optimal, and even within that wheelbase it is difficult to get the weight forward. Thus a slow steering (but very stable) motorcycle, which is preferred by some riders.reddog wrote:When I was looking for an open class bike My mate let me ride both of his a 97 Bandit and a Tl1000S. I owned this exact model for 3 years and it was a forced sale when it went. I then bought the Bandit and on my first ride I felt like I was piloting a cargo ship. It took Quite a long time to fully adjust to how cumbersome the Bandit was.Once I got used to it though, happy days. As you say Reddog its horses for courses. Ive read an earlier post of yours where you say your mates TL was sluggish or something like that. It has to have had a fault somewhere. As for an SV its just a TL thats had a lobotomy. I took 2 for a test ride when they came out, ho hum, it may as well be a Honda. They tamed the TL engine down too much and no one wanted one. Thanks for the good luck mate.reddog wrote:When I was looking for an open class bike My mate let me ride both of his a 97 Bandit and a Tl1000S. The TL was slow and turned like a bus. Re: 2004 1200S
Gus didn't test ride it Hammy, he said he was too nervous due to its condition. As for his thoughts? Who knows what goes on up in there? His call to me a couple of hours after he'd seen it was along the lines of, " When he took the cover off it my jaw hit the ground. Not only is it the best TL Ive ever seen, its the best used motorcycle Ive ever seen in my life. If you change your mind I'll buy it right now". Pretty happy with Gus's honest opinion as Im guessing he's seen a few bikes in his time.Hammy wrote:That is a nice example Jimmy. Well kept. Good work. As for price ? My best mate in Melb has a beautiful VTR with full Arrow system and tuned by Phil Tainton. Swapped bikes for a full day and he didn't want to give me the old TL back. Pretty even until you start hitting the high notes, great bike though, if your being followed by a fuel tanker.

I actually loved everything about the TL positioning, bars, foot pegs and the seat is the thing Ive missed the most. Im happy with the clip ons I don't suffer like some people tend too. Thanks once again for your help mate.gus wrote:You may have forgotten that angle to the bars ,its steep .A tourer they aint .

Re: 2004 1200S
It wasnt meant to be insulting Jim, as I said I love my bandit. It just felt really long and heavy up front in comparison in the beginning, it certainly doesn't feel like that now. Its like anything, jump off your Bandit and get on a big dirt bike it feels like your riding a giraffe, your that high up you can see the edge of the earth.

Re: 2004 1200S
Thing is they don't feel fast due to the low revs compared to the bandit . I'm constantly
alarmed at what the tl 's speedo is telling me compared to the tacho which is not even half way to red line .

Re: 2004 1200S
Your dead right Gus, the twins are just a completely different beast. You've gotta love the way you stick a Bandit in 3rd at go from 50Kmh to very fast indeed, just keeps winding like a turbine. Ideally I would love to keep both bikes but I just can't afford the Regos. Bandit alone is $750. Im not trying too hard to sell it though, Rego not due till Feb 14 if I still have it I'll wrap it up for a while. Or I could hate the TL and have sold it by then ( to you ).

Re: 2004 1200S
Well Ive had a good look on Bikesales and others for a price guide. They basically range from $4500-$6500 and thats with a heap of Kms on them. I'd be happy to take $5500 from anybody connected to this forum for a quick sale, but no less. If not I'll advertise it for $6K and work backwards from there. You won't find a better example with only 18600Kms and all the extras.

I shall ask the minister of finance tonight. I suspect she will say "I'd love to but we can't afford it right now". Oh, it would be for her not me....

Sorry Jimmy, I was right. Her response "Fucking great, why do these things always come up when we haven't got the money. And it's black, we are not having fucking matching bikes".

It's not black it's like a Gunmetal grey or charcoal, surely that should change her mind. I'm sorry Mick. It would be nice to keep it local. I'll probably just keep it anyway.b12mick wrote:Sorry Jimmy, I was right. Her response "Fucking great, why do these things always come up when we haven't got the money. one contrast to another,
if I hadn`t just bought my excavator, I`d be up for another oil cooled bandit with low K`s

Re: 2004 1200S
Bandit is sold. First to see will & did buy. Sold it to a cheeky bugger who came round and stole it for a ride when I was in Cowra. He's a great mate of mine and a top bloke so Im really happy its still in the family. Im even going to throw in the last cap so he will be a "patched up" member of our " gang ". Don't tell Campbell Newman .
