I think this is another area that was not changed from the earlier model, so it will be a normal bulb.
Speaking from experience, if you want to go to LED do not just change the bulb, there isn't any out there that are as bright as the original incandescent. However a number of us have changed the complete assembly, these have a lot more LEDs spread across the unit. The assembly I got has a smoked lense (also upgraded the indicators to spoked as well). Just Google or eBay search for Bandit (here's one - the 650's are the same), make sure you get a E coded unit to stay legal.
My tail end looks a bit different now with all the Givi packs but this should give you an idea on a "normal" bike.
Tail lights on
Stop on (check out the remote control bungee cord brake lever control )

I think, from memory, (correct me if I'm wrong guys) here in Aus, we have to have our blinkers a certain distance apart. The integrated tail lights aren't wide enough for that to happen. It looks good tho classypete

That's right, for all bikes after 1991 ADR 53 states the rear indicators are to be no less than 180mm apart, front 240mm (and 75mm away from the headlight).

Barry, is your tail light one of those, just with the blinkers left disconnected?

Kiwisteve & kodde, If you go to the " mechanical " page, theres a heading " my bike keeps blowing one tail light buld (sic )" . There you can
see the LED unit Mt Beerwah & I have on our bikes. We have the 2004 1200s model but theres no doubt they make one for the 1250FA. The company is Whitelights in Germany. Great to deal with and landed cost for the unit was only $78. Its a simple install, out with the old, in with the new, only one plug. No integrated blinkers, just the tail/stop lights.Very happy with it, looks good and more importantly works really well. Hope this has helped.

The one I got was Stop/Tail only, from Whitelights in Germany, plug and play, just unscrew the old assembly, disconnect the plug , connect the led plug and screw back in, 5 minute change over.
The smoked non-intergated Part No is WLL-35-L-S and will fit all the 1250 GSF's. Here is the link. Price has gone up a bit since I got mine (was 49 Euro now 69).
The intergrated (includes indicators) version is 99.90 euro, Part No WLL-35-IT-S and is listed here.
The smoked indicator leses (2 per box) is Part No WLB-90-S, they also come with a pair of Amber incandescent light bulbs. About 19.90 euro a pair.
I assume if you leave off the S on the part numbers you get the clear lense versions, the site is in german with a smaterning of english on some entries.
You might find cheaper versions on eBay, but this company seemed pretty good to work with I found.
