Re: chinese exhausts
I would suggest that you check very carefully that they are not for "track use only". IE: track days etc

Re: chinese exhausts
I've got the one that's shown on your link on my bike - had it on for over 12 months now and done around 15000 ks - I like it. Workmanship pretty good too and easy to fit. Only issue is that there is no centre stand support bracket mounted on it so I've had to make my own out of a strap of Stainless steel I obtained.. (tightened up around the pipe with a 1/4" stainless bolt)
I also bought the 'baffle' pipe at the same time as I bought the muffler though I don't use it now. Sounds good to me - not too loud although there is some 'popping' from the exhaust when you accelerate and back off. That problem was solved by blocking the air box pipe which runs on the right side of the bike just under the tank (you can see it and access it from the side without removing anything). The pipe already has a joiner in it - take it apart and put a blockage of some sort in the joiner and put the pipe back together. Some anti pollution device I believe?
I have a metal lathe and actually turned up a solid aluminium joiner - I used it like that for a while and then decided to drill through it and gradually increased the hole diametre until the bike just started to 'pop' again when I backed off the throttle..(think the hole is now just under 3/4" dia whereas the original is about 3/8")
Overall result is that the bike sounds much better (been told by other guys that it does too), looks good (I think), a much better size and weight than the original, no lacking in HP (haven't dino tested it though), no difference in fuel consumption... For the price - as far as I'm concerned its a winner!

I'm looking a new pipe and every exhaust system I've looked at so far has had that "track use only" statement on the box ...
I think its their butt coverer so they are not prosecuted for breeching noise and emission laws
Re: chinese exhausts
Don't think the Chinese worry about those warnings... but I don't think either that the noise is too loud - especially if you use the baffle..

Re: chinese exhausts
Performance bikes magazine tested one back to back with a yoshi on a GSXR 1000 K6 and they got good results
Stock can--- 155.26 rwhp
yoshi can----160.33 rwhp
Danmoto can-159.72 rwhp
The danmoto was half a kilo lighter than the yoshi and obviously the yoshi was a better finished product (but it should be for 5 times the cost )
They lost some of the baffle packing whilst running it on the dyno and there was no outer steel straps to stop the end plate rivets from pulling through the muffler tube
But all in all a reasonable cheap muffler for those not wanting to spend big money
Personally if i was to replace the yoshi that came with my bike i would look at the Delkavic , Ixill , and the screaming demon muffler and these are available for not a lot of coin on E-bay in oz
They just look better finished to me but that is just personal choice / taste

Re: chinese exhausts
I can't vouch for 'all' Danmoto stuff as I've only bought the one but it's fine... no rattles or anything coming apart anywhere... I've got the carbon one so its finish is like any other carbon can.. They do sell stainless or titanium finished mufflers as well - haven't seen or heard any so can't vouch for them either.
I was down at Phillip Is. a few weeks ago for the WSBK's and had a pit pass for the Friday. As I was wandering about looking at all the bikes I saw a couple in a garage that had the "Akroprovic" label on their mufflers... on closer inspection they were actually "Danmoto" and the same as mine. I asked the mechanic what the deal was he he said they just put the sticker on as they liked the sticker...? Had no issues with the muffler and happy with the performance etc.... so can't be too bad if they're used on a 'race' bike??
Having said all that.... if price wasn't an issue; I'd probably have bought a Yoshi or something 'upmarket' but then I saved myself at least $400 getting the Danmoto... and that's $$ I can readily spend elsewhere...

Ive been looking at the el-cheapo (cone ) with the thought of covering it totally in carbon for something a bit different

I'll try to record something and upload it tomorrow - I thought though that the last video above had it running with the baffle inserted?

Re: chinese exhausts
Nice job Bhoffo. Looks and sounds good. I bet it is a hell of a lot lighter than the original.

Re: chinese exhausts
I was thinking about the Danmoto exhausts but the Delkevic came with the centre stand stop bracket for only $300 delivered.

This time with sound!
Hammy wrote:Nice job Bhoffo. Looks and sounds good. I bet it is a hell of a lot lighter than the original.
Yes.. heaps lighter... in fact hardly worth weighing in comparison to the original.... (I didn't weigh it though so have no idea what it does actually weigh)
I uploaded another snipped to Youtube this morning.... so this time its of my bike with the Danmoto Carbon muffler on without the baffle... I let you hear it at idle then higher up to 4000 rpm and a squirt or two to 5000...
I have no issues with it apart from the fact that it didn't have a centre stand support bracket attached and that was soon fixed with a 2mm thick piece of Stainless strapping..for $80 I'd certainly consider getting another ($115 delivered)

Re: chinese exhausts
Reading some of the yankee Bandit forums I have read that one guy got defected for having one of these systems fitted. it was a noise defect. maybe they have stricter regs there?

Re: chinese exhausts
I'd be surprised to be 'pinged' for noise on this one.. the baffle cost $7 extra and does quieten it down a little but all my mates reckon its better with out it in..

Re: chinese exhausts
I do like the sound of that muffler and the price.
