Hey has anyone fitted USD forks and rear shock to 2001 1200 bandit,i here that it is possible but the details are sketchy as to which models fit ect. GSX 600,750,1100,R models are supposed to be good doners.
Dont want to uprade my bike as im to attached to her so.
All the extra adjustment would be helpful for track days ect
Any info would be great
cheers Darren

I have a GSXR1000 '08 rear shock in my K4 and progressive springs in the front with 12.5wt oil. I weigh 114kg in my riding gear.

The rear is raised 10mm from standard. To lessen the compression and make the front a little stiffer I am about to take 5ml of oil out of each leg and wind up the preload a touch.

With Metzler Z8 roadtechs the ride is comfortable, compliant and very reassuring.

to be honest, you can make any front end fit with enough money, the closest fit is gix 1100w from what i remember. I`ve got a set of 07-08 gix forks to be fitted, this is a long term project and will take time, but the forks are about 50mm shorter, some have just put them in with the basic of mandatory fitting, and not worried about the geometry off set,but i will be attending to this with a custom top triple clamp to suit. theres the issue of brakes matching with shims if using your bandit wheel if you don`t buy a complete front end of any doner bike.this is just some of the things to contend with. none of it is hard, just have to research. if you go to bandit forum UK, maxiumsuzuki in the US,and australian street fighter, all these sites have lots of info on how, why.

I have rebuilt my bandit front end to ohlins specs, and my over all riding style, and it is great, but you still can`t adjust damper control, and this is something i want,so for me USD front is a must, but i would say, just rebuilding your bandit front from any gooroo, will change your life anyway, depends on how serious you want to go.

Take a look over at this forum lots of info there on this subject

http://oldskoolsuzuki.info/
Just click on the left where it says "PP PAGES" there is some specs on shock lengths

Rear shock

Upside down forks to a 1st generation bandit pretty much the same for a K series

I have got a K5/6 gsxr 1000 shock fitted to my K5 bandit and it raises the rear by 30 mm and makes the bike steer quicker and is still stable at speed

This will fit as well with and has a set of dog bones with it to keep the stock ride height

I fitted a Cogent rear shock to my 05 B12 about 3 months ago and the back end travels much better now and doesnt have that wooden feeling it had with the original shock.

I just had Race Tech springs and gold valves fitted to the front forks on Thursday and I also fitted a fork brace when I re-installed the forks. I did a short run yesterday and the front end feels so much more compliant in all areas and I noticed when pushing hard through roundabouts the steering was also much more precise.

I dont believe you need adjustable damping if you forks are setup correctly by a suspension specialist with the correct weight oil and valves.
