CAMS.....Soooo tempted
Hi Guys,
After wasting most of my day on the net looking for aftermarket Bandit Cams, i found a German company that offers re-grinding of your cams....for 700 odd Euros.
Do not despair, i then used this info to type in "Cam re-grind" and found Waggott Cams.
Sent off an email with an enquiry regarding 1250 Bandit cam re-grinding and received a reply within half an hour.
Pete, from Waggott Cams, mentioned that they have carried out re-grinds on gsxr 1000-1300 and that there are enough specs to suit the 1250 size. He estimates approximately $250 for both cams plus $15 freight.
Will be speaking to the mechanic this afternoon regarding all necessary work around this operation and possible gains/downsides regarding this operation.
Keep you posted rev-heads.
Nathan

Interesting.
Should have bought an FZ1 in the first place?
Personally there are other areas to improve before I'd be going internal. Front end dive and braided lines for a couple of ideas.
Keep us posted though.

What, and have to ride around on a Yamaha all the time? Haha, no offence to Yamaha lovers, but seriously...
Interested in hearing about what potential gains could be made but there's other stuff that would probably be better bang for your buck.

mods so far
Yeah, hearing you on the suspension and brake lines.
Hence having done some research regarding progressive springs by a European company called Hyperpro. They have an agent in Aus.
The kit, which includes two fork springs and a rear shock spring, retails for around the $400 odd (bout 440-460 from memory). Just google Hyperpro and go to Aus distributor.
As for braided lines, HEL in Brisbane retail a twin-line braided front kit for around $140 odd and the rear braided line for around $75. I believe EBH brake pads make a difference to braking as well.
Still trying to find a relatively inexpensive set of wave-discs to suit, saw one on line recently but was about $600.00 for the pair for fronts.
In regards to external mods, the bandit has just about exhausted (no pun intended) all avenues of external mods;
Air box mod
K&N Air-filter
Secondary Butterflies removed
P.A.I.R system removed
PowerCommander 3
Holeshot headers
Supertrapp muffler
Just had an email back from Ballistic Racing, a nitrous-oxide elec/controller is $550.00 and the 30hp fitings/bottle kit is $480.00. Figure this is the last "external" mod left.
Till next one,
Nathan

well done dhula
Yes well done mate.
Did actually try Yoshimura's japanese site first for their cams and nothing listed at the time. May have been an older page through google.
Just checked the grinds against the stage 1 re-grind from Grobewachter Racing Camshafts and seems similar.
The Yoshie price is quite a bit though at over 850 pounds from the bike-mag article. On the last rate of the aussie dollar getting 54pence i came up with over $1500.00 dollars.
The head mechanic from Burdekin Motorcycles, where the bandit was last tuned, seemed to think a budget of $1000.00 would be close to the mark for the following;
1) Waggot cams Stage One re-grind price of $250.00 + freight
2) removal/replacement of the head (while engine in frame)
3) porting of the head
4) shaving/decking of the head to raise the compression ratio
Was suggested i research the steps for head-removal, as far as "in-frame" or "out-of-frame" which would change the hours/estimate. Doesn't look too complicated to remove d.i.y style and transport complete engine box assembly.
Would of course have to double-check the Yoshimura price.
Good investigative work.
Have also in the meantime contacted DynoJet regarding an adjustable Ignition Module to accompany the PowerCommander3 and was told "no plans at this stage to make available for the 1250 Bandit".
Regards,
Nathan
