First topic message reminder :

Finally completed the indicator change over, from the ugly oldies to the LEDs. Went with the Barracuda Feccias at rear. Flush mounts up front ( packed them out about an extra 6mm as I think they were too flush ). Plus changed the park lights to LED indicators as well so that there is plenty of front light going on. The LED wedges to go in the park light sockets were the hardest to source. Finally found what I was after, four LEDs around the outside and one at the front. Excellent little bulb. LED flasher relay. Am quite happy with the final result.

I learnt at a very early age. Never , Ever, park a bike pointing down hill. Even on a slight slope. Always turn it around. Anyway. There are a lot of aftermarket LEDs out there. You will need the black plastic block-out plates as well. You can source them on ebay for a couple of bucks. With the plug n play relay you do not need the in-line resisters. Happy hunting.

The relay is paid for. The indicators paid for. Plastic block out plates paid for.

I was more worried about taking a photo with my new camera than how I parked the bike. Rolling Eyes

My indicators are alll done and installed. I have installed thm in the front fairing ready to go, but still need to solder the cracks and get it sanded and painted yet. the ones on the rear work mint. I bought suzuki adaptor(with a plug), block offs and the relay from ratedr parts. it went together really easy and worked straight off. I bought the barracuda inditactors from MCAS, they are nice and bright. The only down thing was the indicators did not fit in the hole in the block off... easy fixed though. I am still deciding whether to put indicator mirrors on the front of the bike or not.

Side note, where would I buy plain white LED park lights to fit the bandit?

I have these on mine: http://ledbulbs.co.nz/one-watt-led-park-lights-p-31.html?osCsid=0f6b318d6cc0f6d821ddc000f6c8ccf3

Very bright.

I had indicator mirrors on. Look nice but I prefer the stock ones for maximum visibility behind (I have mirror extenders)

I was actually thinking of putting indicators into the park light space, this means I shouldn't need mirror indicator and will stick with stock mirrors. Also should be able to use the wiring and bulbs from the old stock indicators I just removed... waste not...

Is there a reason for the park lights? Just curious as the headlight is on at all times.

I did that Gringo. But was not happy with the result. Problems are: You cannot get a push in wedge bulb of a high enough wattage so that it is really bright. And I did not want to hack the park light hole to accomodate a larger socket. Also the reflective surface inside the park light housing is not up to it. ie, should be chrome not just flate silver painted as it is. To answer your other question. The park lights are just that. If you leave your bike on a dark street you can turn the key all the way round ( anticlockwise ) and activate the park lights and remove the key. The parkers only use a very small amount of power, hence the low wattage and low output. You can see the LED amber lights that I fitted in this thread. They did look ok, but as I said, still not 100%.

I think the headlight parkers cannot be used as indicators as they are too close to each, don't want to confuse the poor cage drivers.

I just tried searching for the actual figures, I am sure someone put them up not that long ago but it didn't jump out at me, so went a little further afield and found this reference to ADR 53 on another site:

DIRECTION INDICATOR LIGHTS
A motorcycle or motorcycle fitted with a sidecar manufactured on or after 1 October 1991 is required
to have direction indicators fitted. The bottom of the indicator lights must not be lower than 350mm
from the ground and the top of the indicator lights must not be higher than 1200mm from the ground.
Front indicators:
i. there shall be a minimum distance of 240mm between indicator illuminating surfaces.
ii. there shall be a minimum distance between the indicators and the headlight of 75mm.
Rear indicators:
i. there shall be a minimum distance of 180mm between indicator illuminating surfaces.

A direction indicator fitted to a motorcycle must, when operating, display regular flashes of light at
least 45 and not more than 120 flashes a minute, be operated by a person in the normal driving
position, be wired to an audible or visible device and flash at the same rate front and rear.
When on, a direction indicator light must be visible from at least 30 metres from the front and rear of
the motorcycle.
The colour of light displayed by a direction indicator must be:
(a) if the light faces forwards – white or yellow; and
(b) if the light faces rearwards:
(i) yellow; or
(ii) for a vehicle built before July 1973 – yellow or red.

Our parkers are approx 220mm apart at the reflecting surfaces, the bulbs though are pretty close to 240mm Very Happy , however you would fail the 2nd criteria of being 75mm from the headlight Crying or Very sad

Personally I like the white lights in the parkers, and I found the LED's a closer colour match to my 5000k 55w HID's - the original bulbs were a little too yellow.

All advice has been taken on board.

I understand the rules with lighting

I have source a 9led in amber, and the same in bright white. So if the amber looks shit or not bright enough, will go back to white parker.

Agreed they look very yellow against the hid, hence why I was looking for something different.

I got a chance today, between the downpours, to fit my LED indicators and the relay. I got the indicatrors from the2wheels. Relay from Project-R. Both on eBay.

They are not as bright as I would have liked. Nor did I want to buy them so soon but after letting the bike roll of the sidestand the other weekend I had no choice.

I must say they do look better than the OEM stick out and get broken off at first chance indicators.

Yes you can see them from the front. I packed them out with the backing plates I also bought.

I think I will end up also getting the mirrors with the LED indicators in them as well. Or maybe rig up indicators on my Barkbusters.

Holdenman got me thinking and looking and watching my flush mount LEDs. So today I took them off and fitted some small forward facing LED indicators. Now they can be seen from the front on view.

Here's a thought, could you make up some sort of a wedge for the flush mount LED indicators so that the back end of them sits up a bit, thus pointing the light forward?
Just my 2 cents worth

Thought of doing that. The plastic threaded bolt is only just long enough to go through a backing plate and fairing when fitted as flush mount. Let alone trying to make a wedge as you suggested.

Bugger. You couldnt swap out the bolts for stainless ones? Or is it some sort of specialist type thingy?

You would have to break the lenses from the backing and then break a few LED globes to drill a hole for the SS bolt to go into.

Mount it to a wedge then mount the wedge ? Idea
