Engine covers
Seeing how the small RH cover was scratched from a failed U-e i decided to sand scratches out and polish it .Unfortunately the alloy is very
porous as you can see and does NOT polish up well at all .(the brass "Welsh plug" was used to hide the scratches)I ended up having to respray it .
If i had a black bike with gold lettering this might have tempted me
The LHS alternator cover also had a scratch thanks to a 4wd tow ball .which reversed into it .1 week old That polished up ok but the motor
being silver was not worth the effort .That will be resprayed also.
This is in polished state .

Re: Engine covers
Don't look very good mate. What did it turn out like with a respray next to the motor?
Re: Engine covers
The silver is a little brighter but not bad .

Re: Engine covers
I had to respray my covers too after close to 4 years of sand blasting. Now I have to mask everything up and attack the motor as the motor looks like shit.
If I get really carried away I'll remove the arrow headers and do it as it'll make it much easier. Might just wait until the bike is due for a big service before pulling it apart.

Looks as good as new Gus. Another job well done. Those radiator hoses came up great as well.

Re: Engine covers
I changed them over to button heads a while back . Phillips head TIGHT with a frame beam over the top isnt the best design is it . Think

Re: Engine covers
You are a master Gus! That looks great.
If anyone needs a new timing cover for a mk2, there's a new one in the Suzuki dealers in Queanbeyan. I went in last week to buy a gasket for a timing cover. "Sorry, we don't have one. I'll call you when it comes in." Got a call on Tuesday "Your engine cover's in, do you need a gasket to go with that?"
I've had to go there four times in the last couple of weeks for two simple gaskets. Is it any wonder more people are using the interweb to buy things? Hmm, spend $10 on overnight delivery to my door -or- go at least twice and waste a few days dealing with the local bike shop?
Rant rant rant.........

Re: Engine covers
I am a little surprised to see that the engine cover went back on the bike silver........
I though you were going for the stealth look Gus black on black with extra black just for good measure?
The throttle body cover looks awesome mate I especially like the nice added touch with the silver mesh. Yet another quality Mod by the great and powerful wiz GUS..... ( follow the yellow brick road, )

Re: Engine covers
Made this t.b cover out of plastic .Slots are the width of a rats tail file i had ,so you drill one hole and file up and down only. Easy, took about
30 mins to do it all .Unlike yesterdays design problem and useing steel .

Oh, I see yours has some custom work on the black engine cover as well. Is there a story there, or did I miss it.

Re: Engine covers
I can't see the point to crash knobs to be honest. On my dirt bike I have proper case savers made out of aluminium to protect the fragile cases from getting holes in them from things. They stick on with silicon (neutral stuff with no acetone)
They look like this, but mine are alloy not carbon fibre
