Overnighter to Coolah 30-31 July 2011
Had myself a good ride over the weekend, and 2 Bandits (not quite as many as Mick) as Boozer (Neil) was along for the ride.
Day 1: Newcastle to Coolah via Rylstone.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?saddr=charlestown&daddr=-32.84554,151.6929+to:-32.82994,151.53129+to:-32.739819,151.3893+to:-32.40576,150.73324+to:rylstone+to:-32.66078,149.85049+to:coolah&hl=en&ll=-32.314991,150.715942&spn=1.50411,2.515869&sll=-32.090115,150.78048&sspn=3.015447,5.031738&geocode=FbUECf4d0q4KCSnJT4zM2RdzazEw6zIWaH0BBQ%3BFRzRCv4dZKYKCSnBREtNG0BzazFAj2HlZ30BEw%3BFQwOC_4dGi8ICSnlNgYxEjhzazFBsrDnZ30BEw%3BFRVuDP4ddAQGCSmJtkflTEpzazEh28zlZ30BEw%3BFQCHEf4duAH8CClP8gPC44QMazFAIkF0tAkGEw%3BFQGFC_4dXGLwCCm7qEYGV80NazEga0OQtAkGBA%3BFdSiDf4deonuCCkjSx6KayoMazFArhRztAkGEw%3BFf1mGv4dz4rsCClrT6bdgV8JazFQX0OQtAkGBA&mra=pr&via=1,2,3,4,6&z=9
Bylong Valley Way was in surprisingly good condition, so the 3 who took this scenic route had a good ride. Great lunch at The Globe in Rylstone.
Mudgee to Cassilis was a bit boring, but great fun was had by all on the last stretch into Coolah.
Lock up you daughters: Some of the group at Denman.

Day 2: Coolah to Newcastle via Gloucester.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?saddr=coolah&daddr=Quirindi,+New+South+Wales+to:-31.44184,151.05902+to:Gloucester,+New+South+Wales+to:Charlestown,+New+South+Wales&hl=en&sll=-32.090115,150.78048&sspn=3.015447,5.031738&geocode=Ff1mGv4dz4rsCClrT6bdgV8JazFQX0OQtAkGBA%3BFak6H_4dKjL7CClR7Bds2PgKazFAw0OQtAkGBA%3BFVA8IP4dTPoACSnVrqHkWsEKazExOox0tAkGEw%3BFS-aF_4d8LIOCSk1ycRo-v50azHwoUOQtAkGBA%3BFbUECf4d0q4KCSnJT4zM2RdzazEw6zIWaH0BBQ&mra=pr&via=2&z=8
The first section was flat and straight and the road surface left a lot to be desired. After Quirindi things picked up a lot and lunch stop was Dungowan, toasted sandwiches and Coffee, just enough. There is a section of dirt just before you hit Thunderbolts Way, every body was well awake after that, as they were doing works with sections of deep, chunky, uncompacted gravel causing the bikes to do snake-like motions.
I'm sure parts of Thunderbolts have been bombed but we managed to survive.
The were a few Galahs in Coolah.
World War I memorial in the park at Colah, the plaque says the tree is a "direct decendant" of the original Lone Pine.
Lunch Stop at Dungowan
Thanks to all involved for a great ride, when can we do it again.

Sounds like you had a good ride, and you remembered to take pictures. How do you do that?

It's a lot easier now that I have my little magnetic tank bag and I don't have to go to the main bag.

Yes Baz, it's clean but not fancy, we paid $35 per-person and because we had a big group they did breakfast, bacon, eggs, sausages and tomato for $10 each. Along with tea coffee and toast. Meals were pretty good, I had flathead fillets with chips and veges for $14 a good sized serving and I believe there was a $10 special on chicken schnitzel, extra for sauce. There were also $6 deserts but I didn't need any more calories, I got plenty in liquid form.

I mentioned your ride to my wife. Her response was "Why the fuck would you want to go to Coolah, the place is a hole".
She lived on a property near Bundella and went to school in Coolah.

It was only a place to eat, drink and sleep, nice enough though.
Re: Overnighter to Coolah 30-31 July 2011
I think her view is tainted by the fact she grew up near there. Personally I always thought it was a typical Australian country town.

I couldn't put this one up as I was tagging along on someone else's ride, will be sure to post up any rides I organise.
My brother David, Neil and I are thinking about a multi-night ride up north, somewhere in the near future.
