Top of the Oxley Hwy. You get a "stable" to house your bike in for the night. Don't worry. Theres no nags around and the floors are concrete.

So the Lunatic Hotel is (or has?) closed down, The Coachman just posted on it's Facebook page, "Going Out Of Business, Last Day, Closing Down"
There must be some nervous Hotels in the Grampians Region atm, looks like hosting a SBA National Meet is the death knock for pubs!

Speaking of the Grampians, I guess we should start looking at which one we are going to close down.
Hard to understand the coachman going out of business, looked like a lot of locals were using it as their watering hole

Must have been a few issues with the previous staff and/or management

Can't say I could complain about the customer service so the issues must have been behind the scenes

Ride Accommodation - Coolah NSW
I have been meaning to post this for some time now. On a ride from Sydney to Coolah (Black Stump Territory) some of our number stayed at the Black Stump Inn. The pub itself was a great place to stay, eat and water (and something stonger!) and there was an excellent area at the back of the pub to store the bikes.
The riding in the area is terrific as is the ride up there via the Wollombi road to Denman, with the Denman Hotel a great place to stop for a bite to eat (it also looked like a place that was motorcyclist friendly). The ride back home (in our case) was via the Bylong Road which was a highlight and the stop at the Bylong General Store was just one of several places to stop and revive along that terrific twisty tourist trail (great alliteration!).

Good riding all around up through that neck of the woods.

Re: New South Wales - Bike Friendly Accommadation
Former NRL player Paul Mares was reported as buying the Lunatic Hotel in January of this year. I'll have to see if I can get back up that way to make sure they are open . I hope so.Chook wrote:So the Lunatic Hotel is (or has?) closed down, The Coachman just posted on it's Facebook page, "Going Out Of Business, Last Day, Closing Down"

BOB and Desley Kane are looking forward to their first holiday in more than 13 years after selling Drake's iconic Lunatic Hotel to former rugby league star Paul Mares.
After more than four years on the market, Mr Kane said it was NRL legend Brad Fittler who suggested that Mr Mares, a former Parramatta player, 'check out' the Lunatic Hotel, which was for sale.
"Freddy Fittler was saying to Paul Mares what a great pub it was, because he calls in every year and we give him $500 for the Hogs for the Homeless ride he does each year," Mr Kane said.
"Freddy said, 'You want to go up and have a look at Drake's Lunatic Hotel?' and so he did.
"The next day Paul Mares said, 'I'll take it' ... he just had the one look and decided to buy it."
Initially listed for $1.4 million, Mr Kane said when they dropped the price to $1 million, Mr Mares snapped up the hotel, which is named after a former gold mine at Drake.
"Paul Mares, who played for Parramatta back in the 80s, has bought the hotel but he's not going to run it, he's going to lease it out," he said.
Locals and visiting patrons won't see much of the former Parramatta enforcer.
"He has arranged for Amanda Rose Hartley, who is in Townsville at the moment, to run the pub," Mr Kane said.
For the past three weeks, Mr Kane said he and wife Desley had been moving their personal belongings to their property, where they have established Mudflat Road Backpackers Accommodation.
Paul Mares' NRL career was cut short when, aged 27, he suffered a dislocated neck, which could have left him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Taree - Aquatic Motor Inn
$60 a double or single in a ensuite motel room
It looks very rundown on the outside, inside the doors, think Pub Room, dated but clean, bed was surprisingly comfy, shower was awesome, pub next door, Manning River Hotel (I reckon they used to be the same business once upon a time) looks like a dive on the outside but is quite good inside, each night has a excellent special, I was there on a Monday, $10 got me a real nice Beef Burger (had a choice between that and a Chicken Schnity Burger) with a Middy of Great Northern or Carlton Dry, was a great feed for less than a sloppy Macca burger
http://aquaticmotorinn.com.au/
If I was driving past and looked at the motel I'd probably keep going, now I know what it's like I wouldn't hesitate staying there again, just don't expect the Ritz, like I said, think "Pub Room"
