Time to plan the next overnight ride - 29-30 Oct at Bathurst near Neville
First topic message reminder :
Ok you guys, time to think about the next overnighter.
We've been South and North and since there is no snorkel mod for the Bandit, that leaves West. I'm thinkingNeville Bathurst, where I know many of us have stayed before so we know it's a great spot.
IMO riding in a large group is over-rated but socialising in a large group deserves its reputation. So.. I'm thinking several groups from different directions converging onNeville Bathurst for a spot of beer judging.
It's early days so please feel free to put in a suggestion.
Here is the report of my previous Neville ride with maps.

Wouldn't mind going out there but as it's only about 150km from my place (unless I go the 'long' way then it's still only 211ks) I probably wouldn't stay the night... so maybe I'd either go out and back on the first day or meet people out there on the 2nd day.. But things always change..

Just had confirmation that I will be in the fatherland the first two weeks of October so I am all good for the weekend to Neville. The misses is also looking forward to taking her new bike on a long ride too.

Would there be any problem with some of the blokes/blokettes I usually ride with joining us?

Cool, I'll send them an email tonight (or at least on Sunday when my internet is back up to speed - bloody teenagers) and see how many are interested.
One question they are bound to ask is - how much is the accomodation?

good question, I might leave that for Peter to respond to.

Thanks for that.
I decided not to be lazy and had a look at the website. It says $40 per head.

Sorry kids, but I found out a "craft" group already have Neville Siding all but booked out.
I've been doing some research into Blayney and surrounding areas. If anyone has a suggestion, let's hear it.

Re: Time to plan the next overnight ride - 29-30 Oct at Bathurst near Neville
oh - that kind of throws a spanner in the works then. maybe we could go to the oxley [dunno nothing about it] and stay overnight up there somewhere
Re: Time to plan the next overnight ride - 29-30 Oct at Bathurst near Neville
There's a pub at "Rockley" - not far from Neville... been there for lunch once and that was ok. They may do accommodation but obviously you'd need to check. Nice roads around that way too (Bathurst to Rockley - Burraga - Black Springs - Oberon - Tarana - Lithgow - Sofala - Ilford - etc.. Also an old Pub at "O'connell" (road from Bathurst to Oberon) and of course quite a few pubs with accom. at Oberon. Blayney would be sure to have a couple of places too.
I wouldn't be staying the night but might come out and say g'day to the bunch that end up going..

Bathurst is just up the road - is it an option? Must be somewhere to eat and drink there. A quick check shows plenty of accommodation options for $50 - $60 per night (or less) if we share, eg:

I personally don't know the town - it has been decades since I visited. It might not be Neville but i'ts close!

Re: Time to plan the next overnight ride - 29-30 Oct at Bathurst near Neville
Sorry I've been slow getting back to you on this.
First, I will be going on an overnighter 29-30 October, I've planned for it, I've got permission, I'm not working I'm going.
Second, Blayney and surrounds seem to be in the grip of a mining boom "we're booked out with miners, all the time" .
So that leaves Bathurst - Oberon and districts, I found an interesting one at Portland but for the Sydney West guys that would be like paying to camp in your own backyard.
At this stage I'm going to book somewhere in Bathurst or failing that Mudgee, where we have stayed before, It is 432km from Canberra though, but if that doesn't phase you guys then that is a good possibility. We will be taking an indirect route from Newcastle, lunch probably at Rylstone (260km) then trying for another 200km or so after lunch.
I know this ride has lost momentum somewhat but who else is still keen? As I've said I will be doing a ride barring death, disability or cyclone.
What Accommodation are you guys happy with and how much are you happy to pay? We usually stay at pubs and some provide off-street bike parking but maybe a motel would guarantee parking for a little more.

Re: Time to plan the next overnight ride - 29-30 Oct at Bathurst near Neville
Glad this is still on Re-cycled. Like you, I have a leave pass for an overnighter and am keen to use it.
I'm happy with whatever arrangements are made and prepared to pay for motel accommodation if req'd (per previous post). The cheaper the better obviously (to a point though - don't want some rat infested shithole!), but up to ~$100 would be OK. Happy to share to save on costs which leaves more for sherbets.
Don't mind a 400 - 600 km ride from Canberra. Have all day to get there and all day to get back. No problems.

tentatively in at this stage, will confirm leave pass with the Minister for Finance and Recreation and get back to you all. Seeing as I missed the last ride due to illness, I reckon I am owed a leave pass.
