Overnight Ride - Oxley 19-20th March 2011
I've been looking into the next overnight ride, North! this time.
I've looked at Gingers Creek as an overnight destination, it's a bit limited, a town with pubs etc. would probably be better, but Gingers Creek would balance the distance over the 2 days better and if there was time the keen ones could do an extra lap of the Oxley bends. Just a thought. Check out Gingers Creek and let me know what you think. Does anyone know of other options that I may not have considered.
I'm thinking that the Newcastle guy/guys could meet you at Singleton Maccas.
Here are 2 routes, one could be the way back so we include thunderbolts, it is a bit rough in places as is the road from East Gresford to Dungog.
Route 1 Oxley Highway
Route 2 Thunderbolts
This is tentative at the moment, early planning stage, so please give us your input so we can plan another great ride.

As comfortable as I find the stock seat and B1250 ergo's in general, I think that’s a bit far for me.
Have a blast though.

I suggested north and am happy with the routes above, but I'm not opposed to another venture south .. as well .. sometime in warm weather ... Bombala perhaps

That was my original thought, but when I looked at the distances the other made sense. I don't mind doing 700km in a day but I'm not sure about others, understandable, it requires concentration and if you're not used to it.... plus there's the discomfort which can ruin the experience. Anyway I'll wait for more feedback, I did think that place you stayed in Bendemeer before was ideal.

Distance doesnt worry me either. longer the betteri say
I think we should have one weekender at the start of summer and one at the end of summer each year. So we have one about march-ish then another october-ish like the one we just had. Two a year, alternate between north and south.

Ok Guys, we're into 2011 and March will be upon us before we know it.
I'd like a show of hands, who is seriously interested in doing the Oxley and what sort of distance do you consider reasonable.
Please give it some serious thought and let us have some feedback or any ideas.
Some things to think about
Would you be prepared to ride up the F3 to Beresfield to cut some distance/time?
Should we try for a 3 day ride (can most people get time off)?
Would some people ride different routes to meet up at say Gingers Creek?
Let's try and answer these burning questions so we can get our accommodation sorted.
Obviously we would have more choice if we stayed somewhere other than Gingers Creek, I'd have to look into that.
A town with a pub would probably be better, socialising wise.

In May, usually the first weekend, a group of us from Wagga head to Tathra via the Snowy Mountains Hwy and Brown Mountain then back home via Braidwood, Bungendore, Gundaroo and Yass.

yes but begin on OPH to Gosford .. just to get in the mood.
I certainly can
Gingers Creek is closed on Tuesdays
The Royal Hotel at Walcha I hear is also a good place to stay, and you'd be right in town

Here is the place you have been dreaming of Re-Cycled:
http://www.longflatpub.com.au/
30k's west of Wauchop on the Oxley. Great pub, stayed there a few months ago, was $45 for the night incl a huge steak dinner.

G'day,
I'd be very interested in joining you guys. Can't do the weekend of Feb 4, 5 & 6th but any other times good with me.
I did a weekend run to Forster/Tuncurry in Nov 09 with 3 mates and went the backway to Nabiac and loved it.
Scottie...

Im keen. I really need dates though, ASAP. Im a shiftworker and need to organise the time off. I think the distance is ok, and am happy to stay at either pub or Gingers Creek. As long as we can get a beer.
