Re: night shift
Well not right now but I work a roster that has me doing 7 graveyard shifts every three weeks.

Re: night shift
I think the first night and the last are the worst. And the daytime is just a haze!

Re: night shift
The part about shiftwork I used to enjoy was seeing a different slice of the day. I rotated stepped shifts and would start anywhere between midday and 7pm.
I really don't miss it now though.

I don't know how you do night shift, some of us from the gene pool are only able to work during daylight hours. Tried shift quite a while ago with poor results, confirming i needed to be joe average... what do you do requiring such bugger hours?

Sterilising surgical instruments. I do 6 different shifts over a six week rotating roster. It has it's advantages too - days off during the week for example.

Countess at least your work is useful. I get to reset forgetful peoples passwords and generally waste my time for calls that don't come in. Oh and pick up the slack from day shift

Re: night shift
I did a bit of night shift in Kunnunurra harvesting sugar cane a few years ago. 12 hour shifts. Wasn't bad, great night sky up there. Saw a heap of awesome meteor showers.

Re: night shift
And wow, what about the sunrise? But sleeping in the daytime is really hard - everyone else is so noisy!

I dips me lid to all those whom are able to sustain working shifts, no matter where or the work. I suppose sometimes on shift liberties such as being a bit more noisy and able to sustain joke telling sessions are part of keeping the interest up...to say the very least!

Re: night shift
It's not a skill I want to have. I pretty much break my rule about riding whilst being overtired at the end of every shift, including the day ones. There have been mornings where I carved up traffic at the lights like it was standing still, not something that I'm proud of. The bandit did sound good thoughThof wrote:I dips me lid to all those whom are able to sustain working shifts, no matter where or the work.

Re: night shift
Another thing with shift work, you tend to post consecutive times, like now :-)
Just finished watching Mark Knopfler - A Life in songs, a BBC4 doco. Spent the entire time with a stupid grin on my face and a slight tear in the eye remembering all the songs he (MK) has written and played through the decades. He's still writing, playing and touring.
