Trivia .....
First topic message reminder :
What does everone think about a TRIVIA thread
Stuff that maybe of no use to most people but really handy to the others. Maybe a good DVD ,something they have made, seen ,heard of ,
cooked ,been too .Minor things that do not really warrant a post of there own.(like most of my stuff ,there beat you to it )
Like taking a tractor tyre up north to float your Bandit across a river to a football selection ,the taste of beer ,who's state is
better at Rugby League. (may be not that) .Something that may make someone else say ,"why didnt i think of that".
Good idea or just post it on "off topic discussions " or not post it at all? (feeling vulnerable now )

Re: Trivia .....
Well I cleaned my bandit for the first time in a long time - read cannot remember the last time the od tank was cleaned - and 2 days later it rained and.
Might have to clean the Bandit a bit more regularly to help solve the countries water shortage problems.

Embers could easily set it off.

Fires as far as I know are 4 hrs south and 4 hrs north from me. Definitely worth trying for it though.

Thanks Paul, the problem I've got, is the unkown.
I'm living in Brisbane at the moment, and can't get up to my block. I've got 112 acres with shipping containers full of house hold stuff, and another with extensive tools, generator, bike parts, car parts. Then my excavator as well.
Can only keep in contact with my neighbour at the moment, telling me of how close the fires are, and risk.
Mmmmm.....shit happens I guess.

Start Ya Bast_rd
I'd bought an old 96 KLX 650 in 2017. Long story short I did some minor MINOR work to it and the old girl refused to start the past few months.
Supercheap had a sale so I bought a tin of Start Ya Bast_rd and got the KLX going. Very happy with my mechanical ability.
One step out of about 999 closer to getting it registered and on the road. Brakes - tyres - blinkers - kill switch - exhaust - speedo surrounds and that will do it.

Hats off to our cattle producers.
Most of us would have heard of the flooding in western QLD in February. Loss of livestock numbers vary from over 500,000 to over 900, 000, the flood waters could be seen from space stretching over 70 klm wide. I recently travelled to Western QLD, the flood waters had gone, and I can say it was sobering driving alongside barbed wire fences that I could see the flood debris caught up and I could estimate the car would have been underwater for klm at a time, flies were terrible, fences had been replaced that I could see from the road, road repairs completed, railway line repairs were almost done.
It would have been scary time for those who live out there. A bloke I was talking at Julia Creek was saying there are still cattle hanging in trees a few klm from the town when they had gotten caught in the flooding.
Their a tough breed out that way but geez how many more hits can our farmers take?

Those Western Qld floods will have a massive positive flow on to the South Australian Outbacktruck wrote:Most of us would have heard of the flooding in western QLD in February. Station owners get much needed water
The water ends up in the usually dry Lake Eyre bringing with it fish, bird life and megga $$$$ spent on tourism inb the region
If only the rest of SA could get some water I've had 11mm this year and that's a lot more than most of the state
Re: Trivia .....
I went to the local tip today and decided a walk through the tip shop . (as one does ) . In A shopping trolley I noticed rubber motorcycle seat and recognised the unusual shape , being Moto Guzzi . I went to the counter hiding the Moto Guzzi logo and scored it for $5 . Now I knew it was worth more than that , but was surprised when I found only one on e-bay for $812 plus freight from spain .
Probably struggle to get $50 such is silly E-Bay prices ,on certain items, but who knows.

Re: Trivia .....
After 6 months of not owning a Bandit i'd had enough and bought a Gen 1 1200 . Sight unseen $2500 ,will know what I have in bout 10 days when it gets delivered . In some ways my old Fj1200 was a better bike but the weight factor and bad seat to peg configuration killed it . Plus , I predict Gen 1s are about to increase in value.About bloody time.

Re: Trivia .....
This bike still needs to be ridden in, it ran really nice when we finished the rebuild but has since been in storage for a couple of years and haven’t got time to try to start it now. Just needs some fresh fuel, carby clean and a battery. Has a downdraft automotive style carburettor which is preset at proper fuel mixture, so really easy to clean. Have a film of it running, and invoices and pics of rebuild.
Love these type of adds . lol

Re: Trivia .....
My Mum turns 90 today. Me and my family are heading out west in the morning to help her celebrate 90 yrs of good clean living.
She's a devoted Christian woman and has never to my knowledge touched any alcohol or cigarette. Always spoken about by family and freinds in the highest regard about how she held herself in her younger years. Dad used to love telling the stories too.
She has eaten anything she could afford until recently when it was discovered she had stage 1 diabetes, but she still goes alright.
Still up at the crack of dawn, raking leaves or watering the garden, washing clothes or ironing, still looking for tools in the shed to try to fix something, I've taken the chain saw off her.
Still won't be told to stop working around the house and to leave it to us younger ones.
They bred em tough in days gone past and I'd like to think mine were up there with the toughest.
We should all be proud of our parents, I'm proud of mine and the lives they have lived.
Happy Bday Mum!

Rainfall, what a turnaround
It's been a few years since we'd experienced drought conditions in SA and a lot thought that' where we were heading since late 2018 when the rainfall seemingly stopped.
Our last significant rain of 2018 was Dec 19th, the day I rode back into Adelaide after the Tassie trip with my daughter on the back (she'd only dome Melb - Adel)
I've got a rain gauge and have recorded out\r rainfall for the past 10 years now, the 1st four months there was more dust than water caught.
0.2mm, 4.4mm, 3.4mm, 5.4mm,
our 10 year average had been
20.3mm, 22.8mm, 27.6mm, 32.3mm
Then along comes May and June ................
95.8mm, 88.0 mm
10 y ave
48.9mm, 30.0mm
in the space of just over 8 weeks we've gone from 79mm below our annual average to 15 mm above average.
Great for the state, not so great for riding, oh well, it is winter after all!

Pretty sure that's what my rain gauge reads as the overnight dew settles each morning.
Re: Trivia .....
There's no dew in January here Barry, May June may have had a couple of days where it was just dew
