Trivia .....
What does everone think about a TRIVIA thread
Stuff that maybe of no use to most people but really handy to the others. Maybe a good DVD ,something they have made, seen ,heard of ,
cooked ,been too .Minor things that do not really warrant a post of there own.(like most of my stuff ,there beat you to it )
Like taking a tractor tyre up north to float your Bandit across a river to a football selection ,the taste of beer ,who's state is
better at Rugby League. (may be not that) .Something that may make someone else say ,"why didnt i think of that".
Good idea or just post it on "off topic discussions " or not post it at all? (feeling vulnerable now )

At least you didn't put that animals head in my bed
Can't think of any interesting trivia at the moment. Unless you count the will to live being reduced by the amount of time spent at work. I did find a pretty cool topic on another site which I should repost here, it's all to do with perception. Unfortunately, work does not allow youtube use.

Re: Trivia .....
the length of your foot is not always a foot.
The length of your foot is = to the distance from your wrist to the your elbow when it is bent to 90 degrees
You cannot touch the point of your elbow with your tongue
Your ears never stop growing
A true gollywog is black
if you try to reach as far as you can towards your wrist with your middle finger, the distance achieved is the same as the length of your ................
There is no such thing as a funny bone, it's just humourus
The rough piece of skin on your elbow is called your weenus
1 + 1 = a window

The M1 tank gas turbine engine was last produced in 1992. The US has not built a new M1 tank since 1993. Yeah, nightshifts suck but at least I get to watch a lot of doco's and movies and get paid for it

Re: Trivia .....
I got the info from a doco that found it's way on to my PC It's amazing how they can reclaim the old tanks and recondition them as new. The doco was part of the Ultimate Factories series, National Geographic I think.dhula wrote:Yet we brought them only a couple of years ago as a "new" toy

Re: Trivia .....
Not so much trivial information as a question to ponder.
Why are goods carried by ship called cargo, yet if those same goods are transported by truck it's called a shipment?

Re: Trivia .....
Sun has finally come out in QLD .Decided a ride up the range was in order.Push bike out from under house ,drive way covered in a film
of slime, moss, mud and i dont know what.NO traction ,stuck unable to move. Finally manage to shimmy way back under house.
Gave it a miss ,bad idea .
Every house that has gone under needs to be certified by an electrician before the power gets turned back on.
Any electrician's feel like a change of scenery down there.
Rumor has it Bull Sharks swimming around shopping centers.
If you liked movie Full Monty check out DVD - Cemetery Junction
This came from a Tank driving friend; In about 1981 Russia was armed to the hilt and public enemy number one. In war games they worked
out ( America- Aust, alliance )if we sent in 100 tanks they would send in 1000.When the shit hit the fan , life expectancy for Aust, crew
was 2 minutes.

last I heard it was 3 mins so they got an extra minute in 30 years
I don't think Oz has ever had 100 tanks. The previous thing we had was well known to be a koala (never to be exported) and the new thing is no better

Re: Trivia .....
Wouldn't have mattered guys. We bought Leopards remember. They were designed for Euro winters and fitted with heaters, not aircon. So where did we put them - Darwin (without, for many years, installing aircon)! Our tank crews would have been lucky to survive 20 minutes in a closed tank. And then there was the northern Oz wet season - a Leopard is useless in those conditions and I heard stories of our tanks getting bogged to the point where missions were abandoned!dhula wrote:gus wrote:This came from a Tank driving friend; In about 1981 Russia was armed to the hilt and public enemy number one. IMO wouldn't have mattered what we got back then (leo arrived in about 76-77 from memory)Wouldn't have mattered guys. We bought Leopards remember.
They were in a cold place (some of the year) to start with and that heater does rock. They did trial aircon for a while, but it broke more than it fixed including one roll over that I know of.They were designed for Euro winters and fitted with heaters, not aircon. So where did we put them - Darwin (without, for many years, installing aircon)!
NBCD fan plus the little personal fans that were fitted later on where "OK"ish,Our tank crews would have been lucky to survive 20 minutes in a closed tank.
What isn't. Tanks at 45-55 tonnes (depending on what variant) + wet season do not mixAnd then there was the northern Oz wet season - a Leopard is useless in those conditions and I heard stories of our tanks getting bogged to the point where missions were abandoned!
They also got just as bogged in many places elsewhere. What we have now is even heavier
