Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Can we still get them? It could be my imagination or my failing memory but I reckon this second set of PR2's stick better than the first
I would have thought the price is at the upper end for a tyre thats not made any more. I think thats what I paid but they were pretty much a current tyre. The 3's were only a month or so out in the market.
Re: Tyres: Feedback
$245 sounds a bit Xie to me. I paid $430 for a set, F&R, of PR2s fitted. Did you shop around ?

Re: Tyres: Feedback
New PR2 rear fitted today. $320 fitted. I shopped around, Wagga Bike Tyres were the only ones who had them in stock. I could have got them a little cheaper if I wanted to wait a week or so, but that wasn't an option.
I got roughly 15000km out of the old PR2 and I was generally impressed with it. The only thing is when it got close to the 'use by date' it deteriorated rapidly. On Sunday morning I figured I had a 1000k's or more left in it, so I went for a ride on some of my favourite roads, some of them have a bit of dirt. 300km later and the tyre is well passed the wear indicators and splits were starting to appear in the centre of the tyre. So I rode home rather sedately trying to avoid all the crap on the road - not easy on the roads around here.

I concure with the rapid wear at the end. Almost a feeling of being ripped off until you realise they have done 16,000km anyway.

The unexpected expense of a new tyre now means I have to stretch (pardon the pun) a few more 1000k's out of my chain and sprokets.

Benalla Chainsaw & Mower centre. Have checked everywhere else. Jake Wilson has Pr2's for $99 but after postage and fitting $ are more. Locally it's the same deal. The same tyre fitted & balance in Wang, Albury, Wodonga (Fuel costs) it works out more. I work next door in Benalla so I the fuel cost is Neg. Plus The guys there take real care in fitting.

Working in Benalla, you poor bastard.
I lived in Benalla for 4 years, which was 4 years too long.

re tyres feedback
Well guys I must be doing something wrong my original tyres need replacing and I have just done 3000 ks and they are on the wear bars, so I need some replacements that are going to give better mileage , I have been reading really good things about Metzler roadtec Z8 interact, supposed to be good for at least 7500ks and grip like hell , so was wondering if any of you guys have tried them, if not I am going to give them a go, so will give feedback when fitted and tried.

Not tried them. It will take a bit to get me off PR2/3's but there are others to choose from I know.OLDANNAKED wrote:Well guys I must be doing something wrong my original tyres need replacing and I have just done 3000 ks and they are on the wear bars, so I need some replacements that are going to give better mileage , I have been reading really good things about Metzler roadtec Z8 interact, supposed to be good for at least 7500ks and grip like hell , so was wondering if any of you guys have tried them, if not I am going to give them a go, so will give feedback when fitted and tried.
3000 is not uncommon for the OEM tyres depending on a lot of factors.
Re: Tyres: Feedback
As I've posted elsewhere, my first set of PR2's are coming to an end and if I get them through to the 24,000km service, they'll have done 16,000kms (they currently have 13,000kms on them but are getting down to somewhere near the indicators (1 mil or maybe a bit more in the centre, more on the outside). I'll be putting PR3s on.
By comparison, I stretched the OEM Dunlops to 7,500kms but they were really shot by then. And I was riding pretty conservitely after a long absence from motorcycling. Don't be too disappointed with 3,000kms - from what I've read you won't be Robinson Crusoe. As 2WA said, depends on lots of factors.

To OLDANNAKED, recently put on a Metzler Sportec M5 Interact on front, only done about 1000ks so far and liking it. Was $189 fitted. Seems better than original Bridgestone BT21.

Be interested to know what you think of the PR3's.... I've done about 6k on mine now and like the feel.... no real sign of wear yet either...

Done about 6000 ks on my PR3's now... I like them! The guy that I bought them off wanted some feedback as he thought that on the highway the serrated type grooves in the front tyre might be noisy - but if they are I can't hear them over the noise of the wind, exhaust and my girlfriends screams over the intercom wanting me to slow down!!
