eBay "Galfer" rotors
I purchased a set of front "Galfer" rotors from eBay for my GSX1250FA, and subsequently removed them today due to:
- The bike would "lurch" or "surge" to a stop in a pulsing fashion (almost like the discs were warped), rather than pulling up smoothly.
- Initial bite was more aggressive than the standard rotor, but yet seemed to fade as greater force was applied. The opposite is true with the factory rotors, where a more linear progression of braking is experienced as greater pressure is applied to the lever.
- This bite had a tendency to really throw the bike upright if you touched them mid corner. Yeah, I know you're not supposed to brake mid corner, but we all stuff up our entry (and entry speeds) from time to time! I'd not experienced it to near the same degree with the factory rotors.
- Subsequently this had the effect of making the suspension not very happy, with the bike "clattering" (for lack of a better word) through remainder of the corner.
All in all not a very pleasant experience. I put the factory rotors back on today, and the difference in the quality of the braking experience is spectacular!
So beware the cheap Chinese knock-offs. In their defence, I'm sure original (genuine) Galfer's are nothing like this.

any chance of a link. not so i can get myself some, but i'm interested in the specs of the discs which explain why they were such bad performers.
Places that I've had positive dealing with so far (not discs yet tho) are
LTR and metalgear

Did you replace the pads at the time as well. ie were new pads on the new rotors. Just wondering.

No, but the factory pads only had around 5,000 k's on them.
Perhaps that (not changing the pads as well) was the cause of the problem, but I'm not in any mood to go and buy new pads just to find out!
(I've wasted enough time and money as it is, but hey I'll sell the rotors to you for a song if you're interested in carrying out the "experiment"!)

Here's a similar set. I'm sure all the eBay rotors come out of the same factory...

$49.95 + postage for the pair (it's a 1/3 of the price for a brand new set). Steak knives not included.
They've done no more than 200-300 k's, if that.
PM me if you're interested, and I'll send you a paypal request.
