Wave Rotors
http://www.s3performance.com.au/front-brake-disc-suzuki-gsf1250-k7-k9-bandit-200609-p-3505.html
Some of you will be familiar with my thread "Damn You Mr Suzuki" in the forum.
As a result of a rear wheel bearing failure, I was up for a new disc that was monumetally gouged as the rear wheel moved eccentically and the disc made contact with the inside of the caliper body. Ouch.
So I decided to upgrade to wave rotors.
So S3 Performance, link above, came to the party with a trio of discs shipped overnight for a tad under $350. These are the same species of disc I fitted to my 1995 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport to replace the undersize rotors, which wer thinner than the required 5mm. Rear and then front on and off with discs fitted (Loctite on threads of course) in less than 2 hours.
For those who understand how reducing rotating mass improves steering, the new rear disc reduced rotating mass by 120grams (940g down to 820g). The 2 front discs (1650g each) dropped to 1440g each, that's almost half a kilogram less of rotating mass. I can't remember the formula but this equates toi a massive reduction in turn-in effort, which I hope to report on after this Sunday's club ride (after I go for a short ride on Saturday to bed the new brakes in).
S3 Performance are great to deal with, and I recommend their gear. I have no emotional or commercial interest in the company except that I like to see people who give good service rewarded.......

is there any other advantages, other than the mass?
I've always wondered about wavy rotors

I think they 'bite' a bit better earlier in the braking, maybe because they are slotted rather than drilled. I have only put 30kms on them this morning and they feel good. One minor strip on the rear where the damaged disc grooved the pad a little, but that should settle in within the next couple of hundred kms.
Clearer daylight pix:

Re: Wave Rotors
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that "Wave rotors" also reduce heat build up because of the air turbulence effect they create.

Re: Wave Rotors
Certainly quitere than the standard drilled discs - they don't make that whirring noise caused by compression of air in the drilled holes, because the slots are wider than the swept area of the pads. Means brake dust doesn't build up either. The Galfer article in the post above pretty much covers my experience in regard to initial 'bite'. Much better initial take-up than a standard disc. Once bedded in they have felt great and after a spirited ride from Chain of Ponds (Adelaide Hills twisties) back to home, they were well hot and still performing very nicely. In fact, felt ever better when they had got hot........

I agree - I like the look of those. If I ever bugger mine up, I'll be going down the same route.
