Running Lights Empty Park Lights

Post  BanditDave Sun 01 Apr 2012, 12:38 pm

I am assuming your bike has similar lighting to my 2009 1250

If you are referring to the two park lights inside the headlight assembly, this is my solution.

Park lights are accessible by removing two screws below speedo and remove instrument cluster.

The whole project will set you back around $7-00 and 10 minutes of your time.

Details in my previous posting

You can reach up from underneath, but its awkward.

The ones I put in are like these

Running Lights Empty HID from EBay

I bought my HID's from an Aus Ebay source as a car kit.

My purchase was a pair of H7 6000K 35watt HID's normally sold for a car so you get two bulbs and two ballasts. If you buy for a motorcycle you typically only get one bulb and one ballast and pay more than half a car kit price (must be the packaging!).

The ballasts and relays easily fit under the side fairings?? so I saw no need to get the slimline ballasts.

A company DDM Tuning in USA have a good reputation for quality products and are presently advertising car kits around $40 US.

As the park lights are merely there to fill up the holes in the headlight housing, I purchased the cheapies from Jaycar.

You will find a number of forum members who have shared their HID successes and documented their wiring strategies. Mine is based on the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid!)

I'd also suggest if you are going to do anything in this area and are removing fairings/clusters, tap into the wiring of one of these pilot lights, it is a great source for an ign +12v. Handy to run low current draw acessories, or as the coil source for a relay to send higher current from the battery to heavier duty items such as spotties.

I used it for my HID low beam relay and the HID delay circuitry - never a believer of KISS, you should see the back of my stereo.... Rolling Eyes

Just found some new little 10 W LED water proof running light gems for 39 US a piece at superbrightleds.com
Ordered two of them - not sure where I will install them though - maybe on the forks?
