oil filter options
Hey guys anyone ever used anything other than the OEM oil filter on there Bandit ?? I've been searching and found some alternatives like these
Ryco - Z444
K&N - 138
Filtrex - OIF015
HiFlo - HF138
any recommendations or should I just stick with the original Suzuki item (which are quite pricey at $25).

Suzuki OEM oil filter ?
I was at my local Suzuki dealer today to purchase a replacement oil filter when the parts guys told me that Suzuki have changed the internal design of the OEM oil filter for models made after 2010 & onwards the part number is now " 16510-07J00 " but for the older models eg 2007-2009 the part # is still "16510-03G00-X07" (not sure if it has been superseded by 16510-07J00 though as mine is a 2010 model so I forgot to ask)
he went on to say the change was due to flow rates as the 16510-03G00-X07 is a higher flow rate, I would have thought the higher flow rate in any case would be better as to not starve the engine of oil anyone have any thoughts on this ?

Anyone buying filters in bulk? Thru a dealer or online? Interested in a bulk buy but shipping from the uk tends to "rip you a new one" !!

oil filters
change mine every service with genuine Suzuki / cheap insurance & the price difference is negligible over the amount of time and km you get from one in the long run

Re: oil filter options
Price difference between OEM and others is usually not that much and if you get them from OS the cost of shipping adds up to be close as well in most cases I've looked into.
A lot of suzuki bikes use the same filter so most dealers should have a good stock of these filters in thier shop making it a walk in walk out affair in the most part.
have used the hiflo filter in the past but when wheeling and dealing the next time I got it for the same price, so I figured why not use OEM.

Re: oil filter options
Looked into buying K&N 138 from overseas, over $20 mark delivered. Searched locally and found a shop in my area sells for $23. So i bought one. Like the nut on the end to assist with removal. I change my filter EVERY oil change. (3000ks). I know many will say thats too few Ks but thats just what i do. I like clean oil.

I bought 3 OEM Suzuki filters with my last Jake Wilson tyre order so no additional shipping cost and US$10 ea. for the filters.

I stumbled upon a Vesrah SF-3009 in Supercheap for just $19.95. Grabbed one for future use, and the helpfull young lad there tracked down 2 sets of Vesrah sintered brake pads that are on the way. Also at a good price. They also carry the Fuche Silkolene fully syn oil. 4lts for about $60.

Re: oil filter options
Last time I headed into my Suzuki dealer and asked for an oil filter for the Bandits 6k service - it had to be ordered in! My response was......dont bother, just give me an oil filter for a GSXR1000k4 (its listed as the same part number as a Bandit filter on other parts sites ie. 16510-03G00-X07). The dealer assured me that they were completely different filters, and reluctantly sold me the GSXR filter. Well, time for the 12k service - and another GSXR oil filter!!
Oh, the oil pan plug and gasket (sump plug and o-ring) are the same part numbers for the GSXR also.
I should have purchased some filters from Mr Wilson last time I got my Dunlops......

Very handy to know. Thanks
Re: oil filter options
Just having a break from my Suzuki dealer NE of Adelaide who quoted me over $500 for 12,000k service on my Bandit.
No shims need doing or anything like that.
So went to Kawasaki dealer at Gepps Cross and got 4L of Motul 5100 and a HiFlo 138 filter for $80.
Will get K&N air filter soon but inspected current one and looks fine.
Whacked the new filter on and plonked in the Motul and lo and behold, stickiness on low-rev downshifts is gone. Just like that.
I knew the oil change was due as the level had started to drop in the sightglass, and having had a few big Suzi fours, including the GS1000S I wish I had never sold (and still occasionally dream that I still ride), I know that when they start to chew a little oil it's time to change it.
It was as black as a dog's guts, so I think with it doing mainly commuter mileage, with the weekend club rides and solo fangs through the Adelaide Hills, maybe I will drop the cycle to every 4000kms.

Re: oil filter options
Has anyone EVER found a Ryco Z444 on the shelf anywhere?
I'm using the KN-138. They can be had for under $20 each - just got to find them.
Slipstream Performance at Burleigh Heads QLD have them on hand and Mick's Car and Bike Tyres at Brendale QLD also sell them. These are the only two places I know.
Something I find strange, most Suzuki Dealers carry K&N air filters but look at you funny when you ask for a K&N oil filter.
If places like Autobarn (who seem to carry some rather nice kit for performance minded car enthusiasts) started to carry bike service parts, they would open themselves to a whole new market.

That's too few Kilometres!
Seriously, we are not talking about oils from 30 years ago .. today's oils (certainly semi-sythetic or synthetic) are really and truly capable of managing the conservative service schedule suggested by Suzuki. The oil is MEANT to get dirty - that's what it wants to do, pick up any nasty stuff and hold it in suspension until it is changed at the manual suggested time. Halving the schedule suggested distance for the oil change 'might' make sense if you only ride on dirt roads or in sandstorms, or spend your time at the drag-strip - 'perhaps', but really, the suggested filter change is 18,000 km. Isn't what you are doing equivalent to buying a large case of oil and a half-dozen pack of filters and then tipping out half the oil and throwing away 5 filters?
Not the best use of your money and not the best outcome for the environment I politely suggest.
P.S. If this offends .. then feel absolutely free to completely ignore .. after all, it is only an observation/opinion

Re: oil filter options
In my mind there is no point changing the oil unless you change the filter at the same time
