Re: Shock absorber options
My circumstance might be a little different to normal as to why the heavy duty spring was added.
I'm about 95, but in touring setup, the panniers and topbox are full, plus my rig is a sidecar so there is a 80kg Great Dane pup, as well as the boot chockers full of tools, food and water. Also I carry 10lt of spare fuel in a metal can sitting between the bike and chair, and sometimes there is a trailer following along behind.

Circumstance a little different? Damn, that's one hell of a setup..
Yeah, I am 105, so maybe the rear spring could be a bit stiffer than it is.
How long were the dog bones you used?

Re: Shock absorber options
They are 186mm center to center. The so called engineer that I first went to said he could cut and weld the originals, the weld broke when traveling on the Great Ocean Road, had to limp her back home to Tassie with virtually no rear suspension.
The Hayabusa shock is approx 10mm taller lifting the rear end, as it's about a 3:1 ratio this raises the rear approx 30mm. The shorter bones brings it back down.

Re: Shock absorber options
Welding that stuff is not an option for sure. 30mm is a big jump...10mm is ok.. 186mm...thanks for that. What rate spring was out in it?

Wow....that's a big jump, but you have a lot going on...
Just had a brainstorm, got on Racetech and checked what spring they would recommend on the Bus shock, 14.89 compared to 14.5.......so, at a sniff I could get away with a stock Busa spring. Will chew on it...it would be nice to have comp adjustment.....

Re: Shock absorber options
I went with a YSS shock in my 1250. They're made in Thailand so they're cheaper than Euro brands, but they have German TUV approval and I'm pretty sure they are the biggest selling brand in Europe. From memory it was something like $700 delivered and it's quite an improvement on stock.
The length is adjustable allowing for changes in ride height and apart from that it's just preload and rebound, but the damping is nice and controlled.
If your bike has ABS then getting to the shock top mount is a PITA, particularly getting the bolt back in.
