Bandit is gone
Hi all,
Just a quick update to say the bandit is now gone. And by gone I mean totalled.
Friday morning last week I was riding to work when a lady decided to cross an intersection when she did not have a green light!
I was proceeding through at the time and T-boned her in the front quarter panel. Bike span, smashing to her drivers door, ejecting me 10 - 15m in the process.
I got a nice trip to hospital on the spinal board which was fun. Ive fractured 7 ribs across both sides but am otherwise ok.
The bandit will be a total loss however. https://imgur.com/a/U8mxTqk
Just wanted to thank you all for your support and guidance with it over the last few years.
I’m open for suggestions on what bike to get next
Cheers,
Lynch

Glad you got off better than your bike.
Hopefully injuries will heal quickly.
Next bike depends on insurance value, I'd go again are you hoping to get it cheap before auctions?

Yes. I’m very lucky.
Nah I think that the bike will be a non reparable write off.
Gonna look at it in-person tomorrow so will get some better pictures.
I should get $9500 from insurance. Will need new helmet etc though.
Thinking of combining the money with some savings and picking up the Katana or the CB1000R

Glad to hear you are ok. I had mine 12 month ago. A bit luckier than you as i didn't break anything.
Bike (BMW R1200RS) was also totalled with over $23k in damages. New bike 1 month later, which I had to add some funds to.

Sorry to hear it, buddy! I've had mishaps, so from one casualty to another, my sympathies.
Once they've bolted you back together they will send you for physiotherapy. Best medicine.
Next bike? For me, whatever fits my limited budget. Bandit; Hon Super Blackbird (actually my first choice); early-2000s BMW; Kaw ZZR series; any sports tourer. All about taste and $$$.
Strong recovery; do the physio; keep us posted.

Re: Bandit is gone
Wow!
Glad you are OK (ish). I was very almost wiped out on Wednesday when a truck coming down a hill decided he wasn't going to give way to me turning right on a roundabout. Lucky I was at low speed and max brakes stopped me in time. Did you get a chance to brake before impact ? What happens to the driver of the car ? Did the Police get involved and will there be culpable driving charges against the lady driver - I certainly hope so. Next bike? I am a lifelong fan of the Suzuki GS range so am a bit biased...

Hey,
Thanks - yes I am very luck to get out of it as lightly as I did.
I think I must have squeezed the brakes a little and attempted to swerve. I hit her front drivers side quarter panel, then the bike whipped round and smashed into her drivers side door. I didn't really see her till it was too late as she was already in the intersection.
Police were involved and said I wasn't at fault obviously, I think they may have given her a ticked but didn't charge her. As they explained it to me she had started to cross the intersection when it was green. Traffic banked up so she couldn't cross and was 1/2 car length into the intersection when it went red. I couldn't see that from the right hand lane just looked like she was waiting at the red light like normal.
My light was red so I was slowing preparing to stop, My light when green so I rolled the throttle back on. At the same time the truck in the left hand lane (travelling the same direction as me) motioned to the lady that she was partly into the intersection. She panicked and sped forward and straight into my path.
re: next bike. The Katana is really looking good to me.

At work they used to say :
"The Swiss Cheese " scenario - all the holes of many slices line up and then it happens. For good but usually for bad.

Haha - Its definitely not repairable! They changed the link for some reason - https://www.pickles.com.au/damaged-salvage/item/-/details/CP-06-11--Suzuki--Bandit-1250S---GSF1250S--Cycle/402387742
The assessor never went to see the bike and I guess just declared it an economic write off.
Will be interesting to see what it goes for.
