Post  Jackrowley634 Fri 26 Mar 2021, 12:36 pm

So I lost my keys for my bandit 1250 and without knowing a new key needs to be coded into ecu I brought a lock set so I put the lock set on and fi was light was flashing showing code c42 (no key signal) so my bike fell over in the garden and now it won’t show me the code and fi light has stopped flashing still says “check” but can’t get the code up anyone know how I can fix the problem caused by the bike falling over so I can then get someone to come out and code the key for me
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Interesting. During the years I owned the 2010 Bandit 1250S I had spare keys cut. They were not "smart" keys in any way and certainly did not interact with the ECU. Cost for each key was about $5. Yep, and they all worked.

Did Suzuki change something along the way in later models with respect to the key?

I recently had a bmw f800s ,which i wanted to fit a f800 gt top triple clamp because it  gave a higher bar set up . I ended up buying a triple clamp which CAME WITH the ignition barrel (still fitted ), 2 keys , fuel cap ,ECU and seat lock Total cost $175 . You do have to shop around ,prices are all over the place .
Must be an easier way but its an option .

Fairly sure my 2011 GSX did not have a smart key. Jackrowley634 maybe the problem is something else entirely

X2

Jackrowley634, what year is yours? If it's a 2016 model perhaps they went high tech?

I punched " Bandit key" into EBay and there is a key & ECU programming service from a Ostan Locksmith - (Melbourne?)
Must have went high tech at some stage 🤔

I think that is a generic ad the shop puts up for all bikes.

So I just had a look at Mick Hone's website. Same key from 2000-2016 across the whole range GSF1200, 1250 & GSX part# 37146-33E00
So the question is, is it a smart key?? It doesn't look like one......

Done a bit more "googling" of Suzuki C42, that code will also throw if the new lock set does NOT have a 100 ohm resistor in it.
NO resistor, ECU gets full 12v instead of 6.5v , thinks it's being hotwired and will not give fuel.

If the key is dumb just like earlier ones, then a locksmith should be able to cut new one easily. Had to get that done with 1 of my G's, lost  key when moving. She just used the main code and then used the little picks to complete it. Got 3 keys, the key code, home service, for about $100. 🙂👍

If tipped over it won’t start until you cycle the stop / start switch (red switch on right). Once you cycle that switch on / off it will reset the tip over shut off and the bike will start. No coded keys with the Bandit.

When I dropped mine at low speed I didn't have to do that. Next dealer service they said it had the tip over code and they cleared it

Just after I got mine,  I stalled it in 2nd, semi-ungracefully it hit the road. Wouldn't start until in neutral & turned ignition off & back on.

Perhaps I knocked the kill switch?

I don't recall having to do anything special to start it but I guess I could have turned the kill switch on if it had been knocked off?

I did some "reorganisational" wiring under the seat to get some cables in for the spare battery in the boot of the sidecar.  I had mistaken the tip over sensor for a standard relay and moved 90° round from the east/west  so it was north/south facing.  This meant that as I went up or down our driveway the sensor would react and cut off the bike.  Got it up on the flat garage floor and it would start ok, nothing really was required other than getting the sensor in the neutral upright position, no standing on one leg whilst turning the key on and off 20 times whilst chanting the 3rd chapter of the Karma Sutra.

I eventually worked out what I had done and put thing back to the correct orientation and all was fine again.
