gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
After finding out the price of a new Hagon shock ( $800) I started to think again about fitting a gsxr1000 k8 shock . I had done one before but had forgotten the measurement needed . This is what I found out and a few pics .
Shock needed is a gsxr1000 from a k7 or k8 (1997-8 )
I got one from Sydney from a wreckers for $180 delivered .
You can see how much more solid the gsxr shock is.

The shock is 10mm longer measured from center of eye to eye .
Standard bandit dog bones are 180mm measured as above
I made up some to check the measurements 5 mm longer the get standard ride height with the gsxr shock .

A couple of washers on the lower eye of dog bones so they don't rub the bigger spring .
I used the Bandit dogbones and with a rats tail file made the holes longer both ends (3mm each ) and welded up the space

Re: gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
To be honest Gus, I read most of the new posts on here including yours. But sometimes I have nothing to add or maybe it's something that doesn't interest me.
I am on a few car forums and moderate on one, for the most part when questions are raised they get answered by some folk and sometime a debate might take place. But I do see a lot of guys who post "how to's" and tech info and they don't get any replies, I do believe a lot of folk still read these posts but have nothing to add.
I wouldn't be concerned that folk aren't replying to your post as I have no doubt many are reading them but they have nothing to add.
Please continue with your posts Gus as I do enjoy them

Re: gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
I'm still here and read most of the posts but I generally am after help or advice from the Gurus about an issue with my Bandit or something else I'm having issues with.
All Good, I undrstand the bandit is a Niche Market bike that is not for everyone.
For me, it does everything I have ever wanted . . . except hit 300 klm hr.
I remember my 1st or 2nd post on this forum, I mentioned I wanted to hit 300 and 2WA or Gus said you wont hit 300 on a bike with less than 100 HP.
Devastated me, but I've stil got the Bandit.

Re: gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
Went with a 2012 'Busa shock and aftermarket spring on mine, once I sorted out the dog bones all has been good.
Same basic setup and install as you've mentioned Gus, but didn't have issues with the dog bones rubbing the spring.
I've seen Hayabusa's with air rear shocks, was considering about doing that to allow for different loads, however the price of those shocks is a bit much for my messily pension.

Re: gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
Hi Gus, I have read that its common to raise the rear ride height 20mm or so for sharper handling. It looks like the Gixxer shock would have gone close to this with standard dog bones. Did you try this first before making up the longer dog bones to go back to standard height? Cheers Mark.gus wrote:The shock is 10mm longer measured from center of eye to eye .

Re: gsxr1000 k7-8 shock update
I have tried the 20mm extra and it was terrible over all . Sure it was quicker steering but when I tested high speed it scared me so much I went straight home and changed it to plus 5 mm only .I always think if something simple (and cheap) makes it so much better , then Suzuki would have done it . They chose that ride height for a reason .
