Shock .......
I'm running a standard link pipe with a aftermarket can (lazer ).The centre stand has been removed and to day i cut off the c\stand bump stop
(bung and bracket ) Got sick of looking at it ,especially seeing it wasnt being used and thought i could make something if i refit the stand for a week
or two long trip .
The most easiest way would be to glue a piece of nylon onto the top of the c\stand where it makes contact with the bottom of the shock .
The question is.
How much does the bottom of the shock move while riding ? If the shock goes down 5 mm so will the stand .Its hard to work out what moves .
Does the bottom stay relatively still and the top of the shock go up and down ?

you could always make a metal strap with a backing on it that attached around your pipe with a stopper attached to that .Then you could always take it off when you don't want it .

Re: Shock .......
That's what Holeshot do for their slip on, except they use a rubber stop. I guess the conclusion is it doesn't move too much.

Re: Shock .......
I have used a metal strap before but the nylon plate is just so easy to fit .
I bought some nylon plate off cut the other week about 5mm thick .Its black and contains graphite .The idea was to make a small cover plate with it . While it cut easy with a hacksaw there was no way i could file it into shape .Even a grinder struggled ,in the end i gave up .
A small piece on the c\stand against the shock should work nicely .

Re: Shock .......
Not nearly as tough . This graphite nylon stuff is amazing .I mean you can file stainless but not this stuff . I would say it is the same stuff
they make Oggle Knobs out of .Small off cuts are $5 from bearing shops ,black has graphite white doesnt .Got me stuffed how you make a shape
out of it though .

Re: Shock .......
what kind of file are you using. nylon based stuff you should use a coarse cut file, smooth will only clog and get you no where. Whats going on when you use a grinder,is it melting on the disc or coming off as powder? you might need a flapper disc on the ginder with a coarse grit. if all that fails you got to head to a mill or lathe

Re: Shock .......
Medium file . : Just easyer to use alloy . I glue a piece ontop of the c\stand today .Figured the bottom of the shock would hit centre of the
stand .Not even close ,shock hit so far to right of centre made me look to see i had put the shock in right .
The bottom view of the shock .I filed off the 2 bottom POINTS so the nylon didnt rub against them.
The silver dot on the nylon block is where the centre of the shock hits .(of center )

Re: Shock .......
Actually that pretty useless . The nylon may not wear but its going to BANG into the bottom of the shock when i take .I it off the c\stand . I hate that
kind of thing . Ive got some spare rubber bungs so ill glue one of those on .
Question = How much gap is there between the bottom of that round thing the shock attatches too and c\stand ? (see pic ) I'm thinking about 10 mm .

Re: Shock .......
personally I wouldn`t have anything interfering with my suspension and would be looking at having it in a way that it was from factory. I wouldn`t have it hit on the suspension link arm,the shock itself or the swing arm. These are all moving points, and should be smack free.

Re: Shock .......
Have looked at your mod Gus and I don't like it for various reasons. May I make a suggestion ? Out of a piece of flat bar, 20x4, 50mm long, drill a 12mm hole in one end. Then bend in the middle to 90deg. Remove r/h side center stand mounting bolt. Place bracket over hole with bend facing back and pointing to the left. refit bolt. It will be long enough, I looked. Tighten bolt so that you can still move new bracket and adjust position. Tighten bolt firmly. I would wrap some black tape around bracket where stand hits to soften impact and stop rubbing. How does this sound ?

Re: Shock .......
Had that bracket but it looked like an after thought (which it was )
I'll only be running the stand loaded up (touring gear ) so i carnt see the pressure of the stand being noticeable .( to my standards
One way to find out ,in the name of science .

Re: Shock .......
Weird ,it took it for a run and my heal made contact with the top of the c\stand .I carn remember this before thought it must have .
The c\stand moves about 5mm up and down and with your heal touching it is REALLY ANNOYING and no way i could live with that .
I thought the bung was too small but now i find it was a little too big .I'll try again but so far HATE IT .

I touch mine too with my toes on the pegs which is how we all should ride when we're not expecting to cover the rear brake. I don't find it annoying i just know its there.

You would find it annoying if it constantly moved over every road undulation.

why cant you make a bracket & attach it to the bolts which hold your link pipe to your cat.it would be behind the pipe & barely noticed .
