Overnight Ride - Oxley 19-20th March 2011
First topic message reminder :
I've been looking into the next overnight ride, North! this time.
I've looked at Gingers Creek as an overnight destination, it's a bit limited, a town with pubs etc. would probably be better, but Gingers Creek would balance the distance over the 2 days better and if there was time the keen ones could do an extra lap of the Oxley bends. Just a thought. Check out Gingers Creek and let me know what you think. Does anyone know of other options that I may not have considered.
I'm thinking that the Newcastle guy/guys could meet you at Singleton Maccas.
Here are 2 routes, one could be the way back so we include thunderbolts, it is a bit rough in places as is the road from East Gresford to Dungog.
Route 1 Oxley Highway
Route 2 Thunderbolts
This is tentative at the moment, early planning stage, so please give us your input so we can plan another great ride.

if we are to meet at Singleton then the Putty seems to be the best for an early start, certainly the most fun.

Sorry to hear about the non starters. Was looking like a fair size group. Any Sydney siders still going? The Putty sounds like the definate route to Singleton. Probably Mcgraths Hill maccas is the best muster point. What time is best sat morn? What time do we need to meet at Singleton???

Re: Overnight Ride - Oxley 19-20th March 2011
OK, I was only planning to meet at Singleton because Cameron was coming and the Putty seemed a good incentive.
My other plan was to start at Beresfield, I know it's boring but the F3 will cut time and distance (maybe you can find a fast Jeep Cherokee to follow, like I did for the Narooma trip) so we can have more time to enjoy the Oxley (maybe a stop at Gingers Creek and redo a section) and enough daylight to get through to Walcha for the night. We can return via Thunderbolts (goat track) er Highway and do different roads to Singleton so the Putty can be done on the way home if desired. This gives the Sunday Riders a good out and back Putty option.
Link to Plan B
So can we have a show of hands, so I can finalise plans. Baz if you're coming maybe you can muster the Sydney guys workout a meeting place and time. Looks like Sunrise will be about 7am and Sunset 7pm, so 12 hours of daylight. Maybe we can leave Beresfield at 930am depending on your rendezvous that gives 2 hrs, 1.25hrs should be heaps from the start of the F3.
Please feel free to raise concerns and alternate ideas, I'm starting from Newcastle so any of the routes work for me.

F3 looks th go to me ..to Beresfield and I think we probably need to head off at 8am .. F3 so kangaroos should not be a problem.
and it will get us up there quicker so more time on the Oxley.
I would suggest meeting at the Mobil servo at ... I think its Cowan, will post up later in the week when I'll know where it is.

Thanks Baz, I will workout a meeting point at Beresfield, with a servo and coffee and workout fuel and lunch stops, we just need to make sure of some accommodation, I will check into that.

Yes, thanks Baz. Will look to your post later in the week for the meet point. 8am sounds good. Not sure of the Mobil you mean at this point so will hear from you then. Cheers.

Boo hiss!
On a more serious note, the hotel in Walcha has closed down, and so has one of the alternatives, we have booked two rooms in Uralla which can squeeze in extras if required. Rooms sleep up to 4.
David spoke to Brett, the licensee, who said $25 per head and there is off-street bike parking.
If you want a room here are the details
Thunderbolt Inn Hotel
Bridge St,
Uralla NSW 2358
Phone number(02) 6778 4048

25 bucks is a bargain. I'll go with that. Looks like its all coming together. I know I shouldnt mention it, for I dont want to jinx us. Now only if the rain holds off, we are in for a good weekend. Im still up for it if it looks wet, is everyone else?

my guess is that is for a shared room of 4 Andrew.
I just tried to call them but got a fax I think.
No that hotel is booked out already.
So I booked a room (a single) at the Coachwood & Cedar Hotel/motel Phone: 02 6778 4110 which is just up the road.
another possibility is the Bushranger Hotel (don't know the number)
when I called they were in the middle of a storm and it was Pi$$ing down ... I just think it was a passing storm.

Correct me if Im wrong Re-cycled, but i think Baz, the 2 rooms booked for 4 people each will fit us in. Im ok to share. Only sleeping. Makes it cheaper, always good for keeping the missus happy, and Im only a light snorer. I think.

Sorry I've misunderstood Peter's post.
I'll throw in my share of the room rate for the thunderbolt inn... but I'm still staying in a room on my own (its a mind thing, if I know someone else is there then I won't sleep) .. yeah I know I'm a nutcase

We can do three to a room as one bed is double, (I'm not THAT comfortable with sharing!) we have 4 and Andrew makes 5 so we could fit in one more late starter if needed.
I understand Baz' reservations, I hope you aren't far from us. Hopefully we can get Neil and Paul in one room they snore a little.

its 6.15am and its raining lightly but the weather radar tells me its mostly concentrated around Sydney and offshore.
So I'm getting dressed and will put on the ww gear and will be at maccas a little after 7am.

Go Baz go!
We will be waiting at Hungry Jacks, getting there early for breakfast.
Re: Overnight Ride - Oxley 19-20th March 2011
it only rained in Sydney and heading up the F3, bucketed down. Then only rained on the way back into Sydney halfway along the Putty.
I had fun but am now suffering sore back of the neck. A little too far for me, I might have to reconsider my entry into the farriders challenge.
We went from Beresfield into Dungog onto the buckets way into Gloucester continued Buckets way through Krambach, Wingham, Taree, Wauchope, Walcha, Uralla overnight.
On way back, Uralla, Bendemeer, and turned off the hwy just before Tamworth and we went through Nundle after parting with the Newcastle guys back on the hwy to Singleton then the Putty.
