1997 1200 ignition switch
G'day all my old bandit wore out its ignition switch so bought a ebay knock off I got a us model switch rewired the plug to Aus spec all works except no spark. The original switch has 98 ohms resistance across the contacts that feed the ignition box the new has 0 the manual says it should have no resistance. so the question is does it need resistance to talk to the box? Has any one else had this problem?

It's been quite some time since I played with this issue.
I think you will need to put in the 98 (100 ohm) resistor.
I wouldn't suggest dismantling the switch
It should be possible to just cut one of the wires coming from the switch and adding the 100 ohm resistor in series
A 100 ohm, 1 watt resistor from Jaycar should do the trick.

Thanks for the replys had a 100ohm .5 watt resistor so put that in and it fired straight up will check the current draw tomorrow to see if I need a higher wattage but this ones not getting hot. I am just pissed of with my manual that states their should be little or no resistance through the contacts in the ignition switch. Cheers

The resistor inside the switch is probably around 1 watt (or maybe less) if that helps.
